I remember renting the VHS tapes in the 80's of gallager and laughing my head off. They had been more expensive before the advent of the internet and hard to find, but now they can be picked up for $[...] a piece. But, when I saw this DVD collection, it was almost to good to be true, but this is one that is true. It contains 14 shows of gallagher, and all of the ones I remember renting or seeing on the early days of comedy central. Definitly for the gallagher fan. Their is also the melon crazy collection available, which is the same as the first three disc of this collection, minus totally new, smashing cheeseheads, and sledg-o-[...].
GALLAGHER: THE SLEDGE-O-MATIC COLLECTION contains the following programs: "Mad As Hell," "Two Real," "Stuck In The '60s," "The Maddest," "Melon Crazy," "Over Your Head," "The Bookkeeper," "Overboard," "We Need A Hero," "Messing Up Texas," "An Uncensored Evening," "Totally New," "Smashing Cheeseheads," and "Sledge-O-[...]"

Gallagher strikes again!,

Ok, I know the obvious reaction to this set is: "first Anchor bay releases the Smashing Watermellon collection last year, and now they put this out, with 3 more shows. They're just out to make money". Well, I countered this by trading in my Smashing Watermellon set, along with a few other DVD's and a CD to buy this. It now finally gives me a full version of "Totally New" on DVD. A couple of things I noticed: the show "We need a hero" was initially 90 minutes on VHS, on this set it has been reduced to an hour, I'm not sure why. Also considering he lets everything fly on all the other shows, the language editing of "Smashing cheeseheads" was odd. Overall I was happy with the set, and now have all his shows on DVD.

Lots of Gallagher for the money.,

It's no-frills. No extras, no notes, nothing. But I would have paid two-thirds as much for "The Bookkeeper" alone.
Sound and video are certainly good enough. They're comedy concerts -- not music videos or home-theater demo disks. A little doco on the whens and wheres would have been nice, but I'm certainly statisfied.

If your a Gallagher fan like me, then this is well worth your money. I bought this item for $20 including shipping. The only thing is I don't care for Gallgher's new stuff so the 4th DVD is useless to me. But again, for the true Gallagher fan, this is the ultimate DVD collection.

This is a very no-nonsense(?) collection: all of Gallagher's shows, placed in one convenient, animated box. As a fan of his work and his style, I'm perfectly pleased with it, expecially for the price. Some might be disappointed with the lack of extra features on the discs, but with Gallagher working live, what outtakes would there be anyway? The animated box is also a pretty cool little bonus in itself.

Great collection of funny-ness,

Gallagher is always funny and full of energy even if you don't enjoy the food-smashing portion of his routines. He has some sexual and sexist remarks which are funny (albeit a bit outdated) and virtually no cursing. Very little to be offended by. Absolutely worth buying & watching.

I've seen Gallagher back in the 90's both from his comedy tapes and have seen him live. Pretty funny guy. This was a perfect collection of all his material.
Some of his shows in this collection are kinda dated, but for the most part isn't bad. Few of the shows in this collection such as messing up texas and an uncensored evening are kinda boring, the messing up texas show was censored, and he spent the better part of the show playing with his nephew on stage. The uncensored evening was in front of like 50 people in what appeared to be a bar and was boring as well. They put the better episodes in the beginning 2 dvd's while the last 2 are... ok. Weren't his best material. I'd say buy this if your a true Gallagher fan, cause who doesn't seeing like smashed melons?

Comedic Genius,

My dad and I watched all of the Gallagher videos when I was grown up so imagine my excitement when I realized I could buy him ALL of the shows and he would no longer have to search for his VHS tapes. He was so happy to open it and I think he watched every show within a week of receiving it.

About what you would expect....,
This review is from: Gallagher - The Sledge-O-Matic Collection (DVD)
I remember growing up with Gallagher in the 80's, and it's great to see all of his shows together. There was a lot of funny stuff in there, and Gallagher was often more than just a prop comic. Bookkeeper, Over Your Head, and The Maddest are the true highlights here.
Two notable comments: 1. For some reason, the shows are out of order, with some of his earliest material in the very last DVD. 2. There really isn't much to watch after We Need a Hero. The 90's and 2000 material is nothing but prop comedy and Gallagher occassionally getting angry at the crowd. |
