This Sunflower umbrella is beautiful and cheery on a rainy day. It has an auto open and close button, but if you don't move the umbrella all the way down to the handle after collapsing the top part, then it won't re-open automatically. I've gotten nice compliments on it, but it was a struggle during a downpour when I first used it. I hope it continues to function properly now that I know the "secret" of closing it again.

I ordered this umbrella because I thought it would be perfect to brighten up a rainy day. Sunflowers are so happy.

However, like the previous reviewer mentioned, the open-close button is a little unruly. How so?
1) The first time I pushed the open button, the umbrella almost shot out of my hand - it's a very STRONG spring inside the umbrella shaft.
2) The first time I took it out in the rain, I apparently hadn't closed it properly, because the umbrella would extend but the bell would not open - even when pushed up manually by hand. I had to open/close it about 3 times (while standing in the rain) until it would open and stay open.

Determined to figure out its preferred method of use and avoid future similar scenarios, I sat in my room (bad luck, I know) and experimented with opening/closing it to figure out the pattern. Did I mention I'm at college for engineering?

What I figured out:
-If you push the button to open the umbrella, it should extend AND open the bell. To close it, manually pull the umbrella down UNTIL IT CLICKS. It should open properly the next time if you do this. (Don't use the button to close it, despite the "down" arrow which implies you should be able to).
-If you have the umbrella open and then push the button again to close the bell, it will close, but will not open properly the next time. It might take a few opening/closing (which consists of contracting the shaft until it clicks, pushing the open again, or sometimes contracting the shaft to right before the click) until it will open properly again. Not something you want to be dealing with while standing in the rain.

I was really thrilled when I first received this umbrella; the bright yellow added some cheer to rainy days. However, after only a few months of use, the umbrella started closing spontaneously. Eventually, it wouldn't properly close and wouldn't properly open. So while I liked it for its aesthetic value, I am now back to umbrella shopping, and this time, I'm looking for something that lasts longer than six months.

My wife has had many umbrellas in the past: expensive ones, cheap ones...all of them lost somewhere due to forgetfullyness. Yet none of them that required the special care that this one did. The others all endured her routine of being tossed on the passenger seat floor on entering the car. This one, however, on one single toss, got herself bent out of shape. It became impossible to close the umbrella afterwards. Ouch!

The Sunflower Bloom Umbrella is the second one purchased from Belle Rose Mountain Apparel and Gifts. It was specifically purchased for my best friend in New Orleans and she had never seen anything as delightful as this. With the ongoing rainy season in The Big Easy, she keeps it close at hand for her daily outings. Both of us are thrilled to have such an exceptional and unique purchase and gift.

After normal use over the course of less than a year, one of the joints that holds the umbrella open broke, so the umbrella was slightly floppy. A month after that a second joint broke. I have examined it to see whether either joint can be repaired, but the thin metal appears unfixable. I can't believe I paid $30 for this umbrella. Don't waste your money.
