Format: Paperback
David Noble's second edition (I look forward to his third edition) is comprehensive indeed with over 400 pages of sample resumes and cover letters, encompassing a broad spectrum of occupations. Footnote comments are especially helpful to job-seekers who wish to develop their own documents, and the ample gallery of sample works offers even seasoned resume writers fresh ideas in creating form diversity and distinctiveness when considering a client's unique values, personality, and accomplishments in the developmental process.
"Before" and "after" resume comments are helpful and reveal flaws that may not be readily apparent to the novice, and even subtle errors could sink the candidate when found before a seasoned recruiter's eyes.
While most samples are combination style formats, perhaps a few more samples of chronological and functional styles would be helpful to those whose backgrounds fit these categories.
Noble's "Gallery of Best Resumes" is excellent, and I recommend that serious resume writers keep a current desk copy available for ready reference, and be sure to order a copy for your resource library.

They are submitted by various resume writers, so you really get to see a variety of methods. I borrowed this book from the library to update my tired, old resume. All in all, a really informative book. Some of the things I liked best about this book: the chapters were divided by profession which made it easy to look up your particular profession; different formatting/style/design (there was a great variety of layouts and the resumes looked 'fresh'); nice tip section on how to create your resume; and a section on cover letters showing quite a few examples. Where this book somewhat lacked was the absence on how to deal with problems in today's market (long-term unemployment, laid-off workers, older worker, etc.) and how those types of resumes should be formatted.

This book was used in addition to 'Before and After Resumes' to create my resume and cover letter. I really liked that book because there were 'before' and 'after' resumes explaining what changes were made and why plus chapters were divided by special situations: short or temp employment, re-entering the workforce, long-term unemployment, over-50 worker, etc.

I found what one book lacked, the other one had. Together, these two books helped me create a really up-to-date, fresh-looking resume.
