Great Caesar's Ghost this was good!,
By Paul Pellicci (Buffalo, NY (Paradise)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gallic Wars: Julius Caesar's Account of the Roman Conquest of Gaul (Paperback)
Julius Ceasar had a very interesting writing style. I found it "user friendly" although I am certain the translator had a lot to do with it.
It reads like a modern book. Caesar's style is readable and enjoyable. The battles are written so well that I felt I was there. I read the Civil Wars as well and I regret he only wrote the two books. The last portion of the book, was written by an aide of Caesar's probably from notes. Even the great Cicero, an avid critic of Caesar praised his ability to write Latin. This book is great for readers who don't want fluff, just action. I recommend it highly. |
