5.0 out of 5 stars Zen Water Filter
I purchased the Zen Water Filtration system about two weeks. I had been using a faucet based Pur filter, which kept leaking as splashing water everywhere. I choose this type of system because of the alkaline aspects of it. Water with Alkaline provides antioxidants, and helps to raise the pH levels, which is good for a lot of health conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zen Water Filter, August 27, 2010

I purchased the Zen Water Filtration system about two weeks. I had been using a faucet based Pur filter, which kept leaking as splashing water everywhere. I choose this type of system because of the alkaline aspects of it. Water with Alkaline provides antioxidants, and helps to raise the pH levels, which is good for a lot of health conditions.

The Zen Water system arrived within a few days of ordering it. My order included both the 4 gallon dispenser and countertop models.

I was able to set the countertop model up with about 20 minutes, after reading the cryptic documentation. However, a picture is worth a thousand words, and based on the picture, I was able to set it up.

When I opened the box, I was surprised to discover that both items were in the same box, so I had to sort through the contents very carefully.

Needless to say, it is now sitting on my countertop. It took about 20 minutes before I could see some water coming into the dispensing chamber. When it was about 1 quarter full, I tried tasting the water, and I have to admit, I was not impressed. However, I waited until the chamber was completely full, and it tasted very good. The water has a very smooth taste and I don't taste any powder or residue from going through the filtration process or that I experienced using the Pur water filter.

I tried comparing the water taste with water from several other systems: from my faucet, Brita and Pur water filters. The Zen Water system tasted significantly different. The water from my faucet made me think that I was drinking pure chlorine, the water from the Brita and Pur filter tastes like there was chauky it, but the water from the Zen Water Filtration system had no odor, and was very easy to drink.

I intend on buying a few stainless steel water bottles so that I can replace the Brita filter that I was using at work.

I compared this water filter with the Santevia system, which cost $200. They both use the same filtering methodology. The Santevia does mention that it is BPA free (for those who don't know, that means that the plastic will not bleed into your drinking water, which occurs when using plastic bottles). I have compared the taste of the Santevia with the Zen filter and the tastes are very similar. The overall construction of the parts seems relatively the same. So for me it made more sense to purchase this model.

Easy to put together, good thing, the brochures stinks. The six methods of filtering works great. 4 gallons is just fine for me and the mrs. Yup if you want a fine water filter at a great price I would recommend this one. Be sure to clean the filter system every 6 months.
replacement filter probably once a year.

This review is from: 4 Gallon Countertop Water Filter - Save $$$ - Transform Tap Water to Pure Healthy Mineral Drinking Water
I bought the 4-gallon model. I live in an area where the tap water is OK, but sometimes has a funny taste. Tired of paying through the nose for bottled water delivery and not wanting to have to haul bottles of water home from the store, we decided to give this a try. It does a great job of filtering the water. It takes awhile to filter because it has to trickle s-l-o-w-l-y into the bottom tank through the stone filter and the 5-stage filter. That being said, it's worth the wait for great tasting water. The reason I didn't give this unit 5 stars is that when my unit arrived, the top tank had a crack that went from top to bottom. It's made of cheap plastic and I don't see this lasting more than 6-12 months. They could have used a better grade of plastic and charged a bit more, instead of going cheap on this important detail. Better yet, a glass tank would ensure that it would be dishwasher safe and could not harbor bacteria. The top tank seems to be made from a different type of plastic than the bottom tank, which feels heavier and denser. Yes...they will replace the cracked tank, but if the warranty is only good for 30 days, I can see having to purchase a new one every few months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price or quality, December 9, 2011

I've read many of the comments before I bought and I'm glad I did!! For anyone on the fence about this product let me say this, it ain't a Brita!! What I mean by that is I'm used to the simple Brit/PUR/Zero cartidges systems. While those required a simple 19min soak this system requires all day prep work. I advise taking no shortcuts in the initial cleaning of the filters and the stones or you will be cursing and screaming when you have to start all over again. But if you put the time in the system works great and the water is better than any pitcher system out. Some key points about the product; it takes up A LOT of space so a dedicated spot would be best. With the cermanic dome use a double side scour/sponge and running cold water. If your unit spigot is leaking try placing the washer on the outside of the unit. Common complainant so thought I should mention it. First few times are slow but if you wash the dome after each cycle it should drip at a steady pace. After my 3rd cycle it takes about an hour. I suggest using the plastic container for the stones. Many other filter systems don't even have this this but the design for it is very beneficial. Sometimes a stone can clog or even damage the system if left free.

So if you want peace of mind about the best filter that doesn't use electricity (in the chaos we live in today anything that doesn't need electricity is a plus especially a water filter) this is it. Just put the work in and you won't be sorry

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, December 16, 2010

When I bought this product I was scared the quality would be low considering how fairly cheap it was. Not at all! I hate the taste of my outdated water plant's H2O and I am a broke college student so this was the perfect environmental solution for me. If you follow the set up directions and run water through the mineral cartridge an extra 5 minutes the water comes out tasting clean and crisp. It is much more economical to buy a good water purifier like this than waste money on a cheap, sub par product that you will pitch in a year or two.

The filter came 4 days ahead of the promised date. I carefully followed the assembly instructions and prepared the filters (ran water through them prior to assembly) and filled it up. I got rid of the first couple of batches of water. The next morning I used it to make coffee and the taste was excellant. I couldn't be happier with my filter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome, July 31, 2010

Honestly I didn't expect too much from this water purifier but boy was I pleasantly surprised!! I LOVE the fresh crisp taste of this water. My family loves it, I love it, and my dog loves it. The concept of this system is simple yet the water is awesome. It doesn't cost a dime to run, not to mention the money I save now that I don't have to buy bottled water anymore. Only wish I had switch over sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars .3 MICRON Ceramic Filter Gravity System! This is absolutely the Lowest Pore Size for a Filter on the INTERNET!, October 2, 2011

RE: .3 MICRON Filter!!! This is absolutely the Lowest Pore Size for a Filter on the INTERNET (No Kidding, I researched the whole damn day !!!)
USE: With my Zen Water Gravity System

I SEARCHED and RESEARCHED LITERALLY EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET FOR THE BEST FILTER AND BESIDES A FEW OTHER CATEGORIES, THE MINIMAL PORE SIZE IS ONE OF THE TOP CONSIDERATION FOR THE BEST FILTRATION!!

.3 Micron ==> That's 3/10 'ths folks not 3 Microns AND is the lowest compared to most of the top filters like PUR,BRITA or most Counter Top brands. Even the Best Systems in the Hundreds of Dollars use 1 Micron (which I have also) size pores.
Basically if you have a Bacteria that sizes at 1 Micron and you have a filter that has pores as big as 5 Microns or 10 Microns, the Bacteria is obviously going to slip into your drinking cup. Well this is the lowest and it's a huge PRO to say the least.

This translates into the percentage reduction factor as well obviously:
Like a 1 Micron filter will block 99% bacteria vs. 5 Micron filter will block 95 to 97%, you get the drift.

Here is the BAD:

When used with the Zen Water Gravity system, because of the very small pore size, this means it's Very Slow going down the filter, but this means that obviously and translate into my being assured that the water quality will be that much better. So I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.
I didn't time it, but for about a gallon of water that passes through this thing, it takes about 1 hour, you heard (read) that right, about an hour.

But for the water quality around here, or more appropriately, the lack of water quality around here, I'll take Clean-Wait-for-1-Hour water over the water that got me sick. Actually I have a distiller that takes 4HOURS! for One Gallon and this one hour is actually a plus, so I guess it's all relative.

I'm not sure how the Korean company comment(that I noticed here) has anything to do with anything unless it's a really bad product, but overall whether US or Korean made, this filter is AWESOME!
(along with the Zen Water system: Way too cheap here so I definitely got the whole system)
Buy an extra one on hand, but these are supposed to last about a year easily by scrubbing off layers of the ceramic media.

It goes without saying, it's definitely worth the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best filtered, PH water filter, July 3, 2011

This review is from: 4 Gallon Countertop Water Filter - Save $$$ - Transform Tap Water to Pure Healthy Mineral Drinking Water
For 2 years, since my girlfriend was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. It was unpractical to pay thousands for a machine when Nature does it for less. This was the best 50 bucks I have spent in a long time. I purchased the 4 gallon unit for myself and it is perfect for me. Coffee in the morning, cooking and everything else tastes so much better. I have had water from a $5000 machine and can not tell the difference in taste. I might not be able to adjust the PH but all I care about is doing what I can to keep my body at 7.2. This works! I wish I could claim that PH water cures cancer but it helps a lot.

I bought two units and had to return one because it won't fit on Karen's counter top near a water source. Zen was great about the return and wonderful to speak to on the phone.

Easy to set up, takes time to clean all the parts but worth it in the end, the water taste better than bottle water and I know where it came from. I know that the system gets cleaned when needed, who know where the store water comes from and when the system was last cleaned. The first batch takes all day but it will and does get faster the more water you put through it.
