Product Description

EZ-Strainers

Use to strain/filter Most Liquids

EZ-Strainer inserts lie on the top of most 5 gallon pails, allowing valuable material to be poured through easily, while removing unwanted particles. The patented lip design ensures that the strainer always stays in place.

EZ-Strainer inserts are ideal for removing debris from vegetable oils, biodiesel, motor oil, paints, inks, adhesives, silicones, etc. The 5-gallon EZ-Strainer inserts are available in coarse, medium, fine, extra fine & ultra fine mesh.

These strainers can be stacked on top of each other to to strainer at different mesh sizes in one pouring of a liquid. This allows a more coarse straining before fine straining, which helps the fluid pass through the strainer more quickly on the fine straining and less clogging. Pouring directly into a fine strainer often results in rapid clogging when the fluid is dirty.

Cleaning these strainers is fairly simple. The nylon mesh cleans very easily. It can be scraped clean or washed clean with a garden hose/light pressure washer or using soapy water. These strainers are made to last through several washes/strainings and is why they are superior to filter bags in initial filtering of fuels.

Choose the micron size that filters out the particle sizes that you need removed. Here are some examples of similar sizes to the micron sizes available:

Width of a human hair = 40 - 300 micron

Beach Sand = 100 to 2000 micron

Lower limit of visibility = 325 micron

Table Salt = 140 Micron

These strainers are made in the USA.

It is also very durable.

In the future we will purchase one, in between, maybe 400 microns will work.

We even put it in the top rack of the dishwasher to clean it!

I purchased this 75 micron filter for use as a pre-filter to remove sediment from spring water prior to the water being passed through a carbon filter. This filter fit the 5 gallon food-grade bucket I bought for the job. I don't have a micron-meter to see exactly how tiny the holes in this filter are (queue laugh track), but the screen is a very fine mesh. Because it appears to be exactly what is claimed, the quality looks fine, and the service was good, we're gonna hand 5 stars for this one.

As a sidebar, I am trying to remove both any sediment, as well as the sulfur smell from the water. And of course any bugs that happen to be there. The filters for the 'britta' style filters are a bit pricey, so with a bit of research I found a less expensive, more efficient filter by buying a ceramic based carbon filter. You simply drill a center hole in the bottom of a food-grade 5 gallon bucket and mount the filter. The bucket then sits on an identical bucket with a similar hole pre-drilled. in the top (and you drill and attach a spout at the bottom of the lower bucket). I also bought a little filter 'sock' that goes over the carbon filter to remove any sediment remaining after the water passes through the 75 micron mesh filter under review, which of course fits in the top of the upper bucket with the carbon filter at the bottom. The $15 or so britta style filters I looked at filter about 40 gallons of water before replacement is required, whereas the $25 ceramic carbon filter handles about 3000 gallons. Because of the pre-filtering stages the carbon filter should last quite a while. So for about $50 (minus the buckets, which you can often find for free) I have a pretty robust filter system capable of high volume and economical operation. (the other mentioned filter parts came from homespunenvironmental. add the dot com)

This is exactly what you need for the initial filtration of water in the wild. With this on your bucket, you can dip it into murky water and only scoop up water and no leaves, dirt, or other debris. This makes it much easier to filter down further for drinking - the final filter stays much cleaner (lasting longer) and the process is quicker. I pour from this into a 2 gallon garden sprayer that has a Platypus GravityWorks Filter Cartridge and then a charcoal activated filter on the discharge hose and get water near instantly because it is under pressure. Less than five minutes to 2 gallons of great tasting, safe water!

If you are using this to filter wort for homebrewing, Don't bother getting a 75 micron filter, go with 200+. This thing is so fine that cold-break material gets filtered, which causes the filter to clog incessantly once you start siphoning near the bottom of the pot.

tried using this to filter mash for brewing. ended up being really difficult to push the mash through, and i lost a lot of the starches because of how fine the mesh was. best to use a wider mesh for that, but im sure it works great for bio diesel.

We make our own French fries and other deep fried foods. Sometimes we would hesitate to make them because of the not-easy, messy job of straining the oil afterwards. But we figured out how to make it easy, and this strainer works perfectly in our system. We even put it in the top rack of the dishwasher to clean it! what could be better!?

You'd have to see our entire, clever and simple cooker/strainer system to appreciate the ease with which we now deep fry. We don't have, don't need, that red bucket in the picture, just the strainer. But, trust me, this strainer is a key element, It's well made and just right in every way for us.

It arrived quickly and in fine condition. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the specifications. This is far too fine for my purposes, straining detritus from Clorox in which I have processed sea shells, to re-use the bleach for another batch.

Great idea and product! I use it for straining mash before it goes in my still....I would pay more for a more heavy duty version though...but like I said its worth the money!
