Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Great game with very detailed grooming. Your horse is sensitive, if you don't clean his feet gently you'll make him uncomfortable and then you have to massage him and make him trust you again! Lots of WORK in this game. You can just ride of you want to tho in 'quickplay' mode. But I like the vast detail and sensitivity of this game. You need to earn credits to feed your horse and buy him medicine and you can read horse 'books' and buy new clothes.. and breed your own foal! Hundreds of combinations of horse coats, saddles, etc., can be obtained. You can even braid your horses's tail! The riding stables are run down and it's your job to fix it up and get the property looking good again, too, eventually, but that's a side story, really. Lots to do, so much I haven't mentioned, a quite game, will update when more has been achieved, but for now, the riding is very realistic and free, and you can switch to your joystick on the nunchuck if you get tired of flapping your arms like reins.

Very surprised at the detail and work and beautiful riding mountain scenes. Love it! Great horse reign controls.

('Me and my Horse', for the wii was incredible frustrating compared to this great game.

Gallop & Ride is also about 30x more detailed and emersable than the sweetheart of a game "Petz Horse Club" for the wii which was very enjoyable as well (see my review on "Petz Horse Club" which is a great, but very different wii horse game compared to Gallop & Ride".

I'd just stay away from "me and my horse" it just about drove me nuts. If i ever figure it out i'll update this.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfying! April 1, 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is one of many Equestrian games I have bought, and I've tried playing even more. For a TV-based gaming system, this game is by far my favorite.

As an older teen, who is nuts about horses, I really appreciate the intricacies of this game; management of finances is a must, and you advance more quickly if you have a plan. It's also a game that can be played with more laid-back attitude, as long as you're content with how long it will take you to get to the end of the game.

I started out not having a clue what I was doing, but by the time I had upped my star rating, I felt like this was an actual place that I had to have a set routine for everyday. (Strategically feeding, grooming, and riding your horses is essential for maximum advancement in the shortest amount of time.)

I love the graphics, and the option of changing your control schemes. One of my few quibbles is that it can be frustrating to train in the beginning, because your horse's energy supply is incredibly finite. However, this is good motivation, and with what you gain from experience, and experimenting, you'll soon find a good, overall training plan that works wonderfully.

All of the "mini games" (great ways to earn money) that are eventually unlocked are relatively fun. The foal training can be frustrating, until you get the 'longe flick' just right. Massage therapy is much easier, and often pays much better for your time.

*Note: Time management is VITAL to this game, you MUST know how long things will take, and if you're out riding, know when you should return so that you have enough time to groom your horses and put them up for the night.

I have basically "beat" this game, and if anyone needs help, I'd be more than willing to offer any tips I can (just leave a comment).

Hope my review was helpful! (This game comes with my highest recommendation)

4.0 out of 5 stars fun, but... January 9, 2009

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is pretty fun, but not at all what I had expected. The controls take a little while getting used to and trying to use 'reins' when free riding is a pain like no other. Every time I tell it to go left, it goes right or stops, so I went to Options and switched to control stick mode and it's much better.

The hoof picking was made to be done a pretty stupid way. You have to switch to the brush side to keep you from sitting there for an hour on one hoof, and switch back the pick to get the tiny dirt clumps out which take lots of whacking. If you hit nick the frog the horse tries to kick you, and if you do it three times it doesn't let you pick it anymore. That always gets me in games.. if you hit the frog in real life the horse doesn't move(unless you stab it and jerk it open with all your strength) but if you do it in games the horse screams at you...

When jumping, the horse will turn away from the jump if I don't slam the control stick forward and click A repeatedly. There are no horse shows except a few 'races' out on a free ride, which are really two poles as a starting line and a trail with jumps.

You only choose from three breeds: Hanoverian(medium), Friesian(tall) and Andalusian(short).

You can walk anywhere around the farm, and there is a lot of room to just take a trail ride. Despite having little to do on a free ride, the scenery is very nice and if you explore you may find golden horseshoes, which raise your horse's skills.
You can go in the water, but not too deep.
The game is addictive and very fun for how they made it. You have to play it and decide for yourself, though.

Foal training can get annoying but it's a good way to make money in the beginning. Buying a therapy center is well worth it though.
