Prog Rock is not dead!!, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Gallows Gallery (Audio CD)
This album is true prog rock and a fantastic album in general. It is destined to be a classic.I fear that about 90% of people that hear it will not understand it, because it is so ahead of its time. At the same time it encorporates classic 70's prog influences, sax, hammond, mellotron, sitar, etc. It will be criminally overlooked for years and then will resurface as one of the best albums of the last 10 years. It is one of those albums that goes over everyones head, but is an absolute must have for any music fan, especially prog heads like myself! If you are reluctant to buy this because of the type of music or image they had in the past, I assure you this is a fresh sound for Sigh. The biggest change is that there are clean vocals on every song, and little or no black metal vocals! Great vocals, very original. In my opinion it is their best album, and will be hard to top, but I hope they continue with this new musical approach. This is a five star album!

I haven't enjoyed an album like this in years, December 14, 2005
This review is from: Gallows Gallery (Audio CD)
I was familiar with Sigh from reading "Lords of Chaos". The picture of them taken over a decade ago showed them as young, Asian guys adopting the visual aspects of Norway's black metal groups of the time (Mayhem, Emperor, etc.). I'd heard early tracks that were carbon copies of the aforementioned groups. This album shows a side of them that could only come with years of mastering their art. They exhibit elements of classic black metal, but they've morphed the sounds of psychedlic, classic rock soloing, and Rush and Dream Theater progressiveness that combines into a sound all their own. Just listen to the opening track, "Pale Moment". If something in that song doesn't grab you I'd suggest holding a mirror up to your nose to see if you're still alive.

Terrible..., February 28, 2006
This review is from: Gallows Gallery (Audio CD)
What happened to Sigh? After such fantastic releases as Scorn Defeat, Hail Horror Hail, and Imaginary Sonicscape they put out this trite. This is power metal. It is neither creative nor good. The production is also muddy and pretty abysmal in comparison to their past releases. All of the surreal elements of Hail Horror Hail and Imaginary Sonicscape have been replaced by annoying vocals and moronic guitar riffing. The instrumentals are bland and uninspired at best. Sigh has certainly made better music in the past, so what is the problem here.... Why did they settle for such mediocrity? If this was any other band, I would give them 1 star. However, since it is Sigh, I will give them 2 stars. Avoid this album like the plague.
