5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible ear candy
I first listened to Jefferey Gaines in concert in 1993. I had heard "Hero in Me" on the radio and was hooked. After seeing him live, I ran out and bought the album. Since then, I've been telling people that if I ever lived on a deserted island and could only listen to one CD for the rest of my life, it would be Jefferey Gaines, Self-Titled. Now I would...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as good as the first two...
I'm a die-hard Jeffrey Gaines fan -- have been following him since 1980's. I loved the first two albums, but had a hard time getting into this one...just doesn't seem to be a lot of new creativity to me. I mentioned this to the friend who first introduced me to Jeffrey's music. She felt the same way until she saw him in concert doing the new stuff, and said it...

Since then, I've been telling people that if I ever lived on a deserted island and could only listen to one CD for the rest of my life, it would be Jefferey Gaines, Self-Titled. Now I would have a hard time choosing between the first album and Galore. What a master of vocals, guitar and lyrics! The man is a genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent, August 7, 1998

Saw Jeffrey on stage - just him and his guitar. He did this whole recording and everything was excellent. His musical style, sense of humor and interesting lyrics make you hang on each song listening for something new everytime you listen. If you like Suzanne Vega, Seal or Sting, you will like Jeffrey Gaines.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Under Appreciated Album. Without a Doubt, His Best, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Galore (Audio CD)
Galore is an exceptional album. The songs are very well crafted, but not too polished. Jeff gives a full album experience, once you put it in your disc player, you can't get it out. Every song speaks to you. Toast and Tea is probably the best song he's written. Forget the comparisons to Elvis Costello. This album is in my top five of all time!

5.0 out of 5 stars the real deal, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Galore (Audio CD)
a beautiful and thoughtful album that features the key players from David Bowie's band (one of its incarnations). Gaines brings a soulful edge and strong songwriting to this work. It has a folksy and bluesy sound that eschews the commercialism of other popular male black vocalists. Galore is substantial and authentic - very refreshing and lasting.

5.0 out of 5 stars INTELLECT, INSIGHT AND SENSITIVITY, October 3, 2003
By A Customer

This is my favorite of all. I am reminded of Roberta Flack's lines "as if he knew me" and "singing my life with his words". You get the impression that if you were in a moment with him, that he would not miss anything while the rest of the room would notice nothing. He forgot to put on his blinders and slam his mind shut against reality like so many people do. He appears to take an honest look at life and himself and have a kindness that will touch your heart. "Toast and Tea" and "Love Her Inside" will hit home with women everywhere. Several of us started out in the first situation and landed in the later. Not loved enough by a man we loved, we developed a protective shell that kept us from what we wanted so badly. I think the woman still has a pearl on the inside..........

4.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Return, March 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Galore (Audio CD)
After the slightly uneven but good 'Somewhat Slightly Dazed' release, Jeffrey Gaines seemed to disappear from the music scene.

Six years and another record label later, we find 'Galore,' and Gaines seems renewed with purpose; the songwriting is solid and the performances top-notch, with contributions from guitarist Reeves Gabrels (DAVID BOWIE) & keyboardist David Sancious (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, PETER GABRIEL, STING).

Preliminary copies of the disc feature a bonus 5-song CD that includes incredible acoustic versions of Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes' and Elvis Costello's 'Riot Act.'

Well worth the investment, folks.

4.0 out of 5 stars I could do without the band, December 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Galore (Audio CD)
I had no idea who Jeffrey Gaines was until I went to a Tracy Chapman show. He opened up for Tracy and BLEW the audience away! For about 45 minutes it was just him, his acoustic guitar and the audience eager for more. He told stories to the audience to transition from song to song, this added to his appeal. He did a sing along rendition of the Monkey's Sleepy Jean, and I loved his live performance of In Your Eyes (this is absolutely my favorite song on this cd.) I absolutely loved what I heard, him and the acoustic guitar, that is what made me buy this cd. When I listened to the CD, I was a bit dissapointed, I was looking for the clear moving voice uncluttered by drums or amplifiers, although I would recommend this cd. His lyrics are great, very original, and they makes the listener think about what he is saying. But, if you want a real treat, see Jeffry Gaines live.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Who Brothers?, February 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Galore (Audio CD)
I just heard the Bacon Brothers in concert last night. Jeffrey Gaines opened for them (minus his band who were all home with their sweethearts for Valentine's weekend). Grimes stole the show. His talent was readily apparent, and his lyrics were nothing short of soulful. I was gald to happen upon his performance by accident. I bought the Galore CD, and it's great.

This is typical Jeffrey Gaines...deep, thought provoking....a thinking persons artist. Jeffrey Gaines's music is an underground secret that deserves to have its day. Don't just buy Galore, buy the entire Jeffrey Gaines collection.....you won't be sorry. Tell your friends, request Jeffrey Gaines on your local radio. Jeffrey Gaines is a dynamic performer whether recorded or live.
