Book Description

September 4, 2006
W. Joe Hoppe powers up the poetry scene with Galvanized, his latest inimitable trip through the world of old cars, new babies, high and lowbrow art, tools of industry, down and outers, and, of course, The American Road. Joe's mighty, mighty heart is on full throttle here. As hypertext pioneer and novelist Michael Joyce says, "Sinister, smartass, delicate, tough all at once . . . " Joe's are poems that last, clear-eyed and accessible, and with a beauty inescapable and unabashedly working class American. Don't mind the grease, this love is bolted to the bone. Joe's a genuine, and these poems are polished paeans to the boldness of an unflinchingly generous heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Potent, Vibrant, and Soulfoul, May 30, 2009

This review is from: Galvanized (Paperback)
Mr. Hoppe was in my class yesterday to read from GALVANIZED. On the last full week of school, during the last class of the day, he kept a group of 7th grade students attentive and interested in his poems and poetry in general. If you know anything about middle school students, then you know that this is an uncommon ability: http://gallery.me.com/brainbackbend#101483

Mr. Hoppe's poems come from a wide assortment of his everyday life experiences. His multifaceted background combined with his love and understanding of language, join to create a collection of poems whose topics range from homeless people to cars to his son and more.

GALVANIZED is one of the most raw and honest collections of poetry I have read in the past decade! Absolutely brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars The rumble of the road, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Galvanized (Paperback)
Joe Hoppe revs the engine, wipes the bugs off his teeth and drives the reader into territory both familiar and eerily new. This is a poet I'd drink a cold one with.
