If you only buy the "greatest hits" compilations you get the icing but not the cake. Fortunately for those interested in getting a more balanced, complete listen to the wonderful music that Glen and producer Al de Lory created, the original albums are now being released on CD. Most pop albums today are chalked full of "filler" material of inferior quality and little merit. Not so with any of these albums. Great attention was given to quality song selection and the arranging/production of the tunes is consistently outstanding-usually surpassing the performances of the original artists and setting new standards of creative excellence for the new material introduced on the album. By today's standards, some of the orchestrations are a bit on the top heavy side-but aside form that, this album is as listenable as any you'll find today. Most are familiar with the title track, yet "Take my Hand for a while" and "Where's the Playground Susie" are every bit as melodic and "If this is Love" is an unusual a track that really cooks in a restrained sort of way. And "Oh What A Woman" is so un-PC by today's standards it borders on being either funny or embarrassing-depending on your point of view-but is so catchy you'll be singing along offending your favorite feminist. Oh well, some things have changed, but great music still remains. This album is a worthwhile bargain.

I have often said, "You don't have to like this guy but you have to admit that he has talent!" Well, I LIKE THIS GUY! I haven't heard these songs in about 20 years, but they still sound great. Two Jimmy Webb classics for the price of one here in Galveston and Where's the Playground Susie ~ and recorded by the only man in the world who can sing what is in Jimmy Webb's heart! There are even two pretty good songs co-penned by Glen Campbell himself which is something you don't see much of! Also, there is a song called Oh What a Woman which is so dated that it is now endearing as an artifact from a time when men got away with talking about us like that. Glen Campbell may be 67 years old, but all he has to do is open his pipes to sing one note and my much-younger heart still goes pitter pat remembering the joy of these classic albums that are now remastered on CD! This is one of the best of the series. I hope you'll enjoy the memories as much as I am!!

Glen Campbell was at the peak of his initial popularity when this album originally came out. He had just wrapped up filming True Grit and was riding the waves of his t.v. show. As years have gone by people kind of forgot how big he was. He became known for everything except music. But I cant think of anyone today that's as big as he was then. He outsold everyone from Johnny Cash to the Beatles. My review of this cd is that every song is excellent. And if they released 6 or 7 songs as singles on albums back then like they do now every song would have been a hit. Galveston of course the big hit on the album and the song that the rest of the album is built around. But Take My hand For Awhile a love song ballad is as good as anything else on the album. If This Is Love has some hot guitar playing in it. And has the word pelvating which is the only time I've ever heard that word used. Today which is another ballad and could have been a hit. I had a list of my friends names written on the back of the original album that I thought applied to the song Friends. Time is another song that would have been a hit. Oh what a woman is a sort of up tempo rocker that goes along with the flow of the album. This is my favorite Glen Campbell album from the '60s although later Southern Nights from the "70s and Letter To Home from the "80s became my favorite Glen Campbell albums. 40 plus years later I am still listening to this.

Ever since I was little, listening to this record on my grandmother's stereo, I have been transported and mesmerized by this album every time I listen to it. The music and the lyrics express deep and haunting human emotions, most of which I had not yet experienced as a child, making me ponder things beyond my own little world. Its arrangements may be dated by today's standards, but to me they are timeless and never disappoint anytime I'm in a nostalgic and introspective mood. Glen Campbell's vocals are simply one-of-a-kind when it comes to conveying the longing and heartbreak, and even the joy, of love and relationships, as expressed by this collection of songs. It is a must for my music library.

I have to really share w/ you all my praze for this man and his music. Another artist th@ i listened to constantly growing up in the late 60's was the Great Glen Campbell. Among his other albums, Gentle on my mind,Wichita Lineman,By the Time I Get to Phoenix and so many others just as good.
For some reason or another, this was not one th@ i could find on CD in the 80's & 90's when i was changing my music over to CDs, Very frustrating, because among the other albums th@ i listed to you in this review of his, this one i want to added to my collection badly. Again, i do have it on Reel to Reel and i know w/ the proper equipment i could convert it myself, But would rather have it this was.
This too is another good album for any true music lover th@ really appreciate good sing voices. This man had a wonderful range w/ his voice, and a Beautiful voice.
He's Battling Alzheimers now and we all know the sad effects this illness has w/ anyone battling it and in time will take him from us, But we can always have his Legacy, And Th@ Voice.
Thanks for reading, And Happy Listening.
