4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty cute October 14, 2011
I got some of these as a gift and just recently decided to try them out, since they're so goshdarn cute I can't stand it. C'mon, fish-shaped blocks of ice! What's not awesome about that?

Well, one big thing: getting the fish out is a little tricky. I know, getting ice cubes outta their trays is a bit of a trial at the best of times, but the way these cubes are shaped makes it extra-interesting. It's certainly doable, and not so difficult as the other (one-star) review implies, but it's still less than ideal. I don't know that there's a lot they could do to fix it while keeping the fish properly 3D, though, so there's that.

Anyway, you sort of have to pull the silicone away from the edges of the fish before you can properly pop the icefish out of the mold, which is where the challenge lies. Not too hard, but a little tougher than your standard blocks.

The fish themselves, though? Fantastic! The level of detail is really great, and they look cute floating in a glass. I have no complaints at all about how the fish look, and was honestly really impressed with the quality of the mold on that front.

These are pretty great overall, just a little tricksy to get out. You don't need to use running water to loosen them or anything, though, just fiddle with the mold for a little bit and you should be able to pop them out.

I'd call them maybe three and a half stars for the difficulty, but the actual ice cubes you get are awesome enough to bump this up to a solid four. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Forms fantastic frozen fish April 17, 2012

Just finished making my first batch of ice-fish. Peeled the mold off from the head of the fish while pushing the body out from their "dorsal" sides. The tail did get stuck but dislodged easily after a little wiggling. The mold is flexible so it was pretty easy to manipulate.

It may not be readily apparent from the picutres, but the mold is one-sided with a tapered end so that the belly of your fish will be flat. Nevertheless, great detail everywhere else.

Probably would not be good for large-scale production since each piece requires individual attention to liberate. That being said, the novelty is pretty cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Cute, worth the trouble July 25, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I read all of the reviews on this product before purchasing. This is my first ice cube tray and I absolutely love fish (especially koi). I was amazed when I found something so detailed that I could use to make... of all things, ICE CUBES! Ice Fish for drinks, the best idea ever.

If you love clever ice cube trays, and/or you love fish, I would definitely purchase this product despite the trouble. It's actually very easy to get them out after you know the trick.

First, quickly run the back sides (not the opened side) under hot water once. Then wait like, maybe 30 seconds. They should pop right out without too much trouble. Have fun. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Be patient wih their cold fishy tails...
Well... I agree, they are a beast to get out of the tray- INTACT. But I had fun adding a touch of yellow and red food coloring to the water and truly creating goldfish! Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Fishing for the fish
These are very cool looking but I will tell you that the fish are hard to get out of the tray. They look 3D because the tray is not like other trays where one side is flat. Read more
