Really great and funny movie.

The story was okay, I think there was potential to make a much funnier movie than the one they made using the same story line.

"There are moments in a life that define a man, this was Mr. Deane's. He was sprung for action and yet perfectly capable of blowing it completely." Harry Deane (Firth) is an art curator who is tired of his boss' attitude. He is mean and abusive and needs to be taught a lesson. Harry decides on a plan that involves his boss buying a fake Monet painting form someone he knows and taking the money. He just needs someone to play the person with the painting. When he sees PJ Puznowski (Diaz) all the pieces have fallen into place now all he has to worry about is putting it into action. That is the hard part. This is a funny movie but it isn't for everyone. The humor is British and this has the feel of a less slapstick Pink Panther type movie. Colin Firth is funny in this but I'm not really sure how I felt about Cameron Diaz. Alan Rickman really plays the bad guy role perfectly. As for the movie I liked it and laughed quite a bit but I can see how some people may not like it. This is not a main stream comedy and is really geared for fans of off beat British Comedy. I am a huge fan of heist movies and this one did nothing to change that. Overall, fans of the original Pink Panther movies will like this, it will be hit or miss with everyone else. I did really like it though. I give this a B.

Like" Just Me "bvd"" I'm an Alan Rickman fan, and "Truly Madly Deeply" is one of my top ten favorites, but I was interested in this both because I'm a Colin Firth fan and loved the original film with Michael Caine, Shirley MacClaine & Herbert Lom. They are both light films but I like this version better, which I bought in region 2 format from Amazon UK. Will probably buy the US version as well. Funny and quite different from the original -- Caneron Diaz is a rodeo cowgirl from Texas and Alan Rickman a ruthless businessman who likes to work nude and has a cat shaved to look like a lion with a mane and tuft at the end of its tail. Colin Firth is hilarious and still gorgeous after all these years, and it was a treat to see Tom Courtney ( The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner ) as his co-conspirator.

Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, and Alan Richman are excellent in this clever film that reminded me of films like Charade made in the 1960s. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep the viewer on their toes. Colin Firth is an excellent actor and here he downplays or dead-pans his expression when he is repeatedly caught in outrageous and embarrassing situations. Cameron Diaz has a challenging role to play as a Texas rodeo star who lives in a trailer with her mother. She camps it up with absolutely no seriousness in a single line she speaks and she comes off as a great sport. Alan Richman also gets to act outrageously as a billionaire art collector who is beyond rude to everyone around him. There are some similarities to the Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine film of the same name but there are character and plot differences along with witty dialogue from the Coen brothers that makes this film more than a remake. Is there anything serious about the film? Absolutely nothing. It is clever, outrageous, and witty from start to finish.

Harry Deane (Colin Firth) wants to scam his boss Lionel (Alan Rickman) for no other reason than Lionel is not a nice man. He employes the help of Texan PJ (Cameron Diaz) to help him with the scam that runs into problems.

The film is reminiscent of a 60's style comedy. The main problem was Diaz's character whose accent and sayings were more cringe worthy than funny. The film makes good use of showcasing Diaz's gams, but outside of that, her character fell flat.

It is a comedy worth a view if you are looking for something amusing which doesn't require you to think too hard. I personally find "The Brothers Broom" a far superior scam flick.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs or sex. Diaz bra/panties. "Partial nudity" means Rickman's butt.

Gambit isn't one of those movies that just lists big stars that you love but isn't really that great. The plot delivers from start to finish, the jokes deliver from start to finish and the actors are great as always. It's not often we laugh so hard that we have to stop the movie. We usually only do that with a few famous sitcoms out there. But we had stopped this movie numerous times to finish giggling or laughing! That just doesn't happen very often.

You cannot figure out the end by the start of the movie, the jokes are extremely witty and sly, understated and performed exactly right. Alan Rickman, Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz are awesome. You didn't want anyone else in each role. It's perfect. We don't enjoy a lot of movies these days. The smart, dry and hysterical humor, like the kind you have to catch in Shakespeare plays (no this isn't Shakespeare) is here. If you love pitch perfect, well done acting that doesn't rely on goofing around or bathroom jokes, here's your movie. Finally!

In the movie Gambit an art curator (Firth) decides to seek revenge on his abusive boss (Alan Rickman) by conning him into buying a fake Monet, but his plan requires the help of an eccentric and unpredictable Texas rodeo queen (Cameron Diaz)

Gambit actually surprised me a bit as I didn't really expect much from the movie when I rented it but I do like Diaz and decided to give it a watch. The movie has some funny moments in it (especially the hotel scenes) and was actually funnier than I expected. Although the humor is a bit uneven in its execution. It is almost a bit Pink Panther-ish in its style and dry British wit. Firth, Rickman and Diaz are ok in their roles but I thought that Diaz was a bit over the top at times with her Texas accent and mannerisms.

Overall though, the movie was entertaining enough to watch and had just enough funny bits to keep me amused all the way through.
