An Undiscovered Gem,

I saw Gamblers at a film festival several years ago and was totally blown away by its hard hitting style. This film would be a hit if it was ever re-made in English. Imagine a young Robert De Niro as the lead and you'll get the idea. The director of Gamblers did a great job. I believe this was his first film. Factor in the themes of cross racial love and illegal immigration and you have a great foundation on which to create an excellent film.
People forget that there is a great tradition of gangster and street hustler films in French Cinema. Gamblers fits right into that lineage. It is priced fairly here and I highly recommend it. |
