5.0 out of 5 stars Headphone concerns
I don't actually own this product, but I noticed a few reviewers lamenting the lack of headphones in the package. Whether or not this constitutes false advertising is one thing, but if you take a good look at your Game Boy Advance SP, you'll notice that there is no headphone jack. It seemed that everyone wanted to know what the starter kit contained and the product description wasn't very clear, so here's what the kit contains: spare battery and miniature phillips screwdriver, 2 safe screens, neck strap, 2 game safes (each holds 2 games), screen magnifier, docking station for recharging, zippered travel case with strap. There are no earphones, which seemed to be the concern in other reviews. There are also no instructions on how any of the items work, so you're on your own to figure out how the neck strap attaches (which I have yet to tackle), how the screen magnifier fits the gameboy (not completely obvious, but there is a picture on the box and you can sort it out from that, although there is no clue how to remove it), or how the safe screen will stay attached (which it doesn't seem to do although the box says it will - "quick & easy stick-on protection"). I hope this helps others looking at this item. None of the items feels substantial and may not stand up to regular wear and tear, and I have no idea whether any of the items will be used (I really wanted earphones, too!), but my son was happy to get the gift and has put on the magnifier so I suppose it was a worthwhile gift.

Whether or not this constitutes false advertising is one thing, but if you take a good look at your Game Boy Advance SP, you'll notice that there is no headphone jack. While there is a headphone jack on the original GBA and the new GB Micro, this product was intended specifically for the GBA SP. In which case, including headphones would be a bit superfluous.

2.0 out of 5 stars Headphones are proprietary on the gameboy advanced sp., August 7, 2007

This case really doesn't have anything good enough to spend any money on. A dock is really redundant as every sp comes with a its own charger. Game cases are a maybe but ultimately, i find, that they just make it more difficult to carry around games because i have to store the cases away. Most importantly this set lacks a multi-link cable. Which is essential to any starter kit in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate, February 26, 2006

The picture led me to believe there were earphones in the pack and the description didn't help dissuade me of that. I was disappointed when I saw that as part of the attraction was that there would be headphones.

My son, 6, used the case and strap as well as the game holders and the docking station (which has kept the gameboy from getting lost, I'm sure, but the rest of the pack was a waste of money. The screen protectors fell off and he doesn't use the screen magnifier (which i didn't know, so that isn't the manufacter's fault), and since he puts the thing on the charger every night or so, we'll never need the spare battery.

Overall, not a complete waste of money, but definitely an unfortunate photo.

This product is, as I stated in the title, GARBAGE. My eight year old son received this for Christmas from a relative. He was very excited, but soon very upset. The magnifying lens is distorted. At first we thought it was dirty, but no matter how much we cleaned it, it was unable to be used. The screen protectors had bizarre lines on them and made the screen look much worse than without them. The docking station didn't work at all!! The game cases are not transparent as are the ones that Nintendo makes, so you cannot see what games are in the cases. The carrying case is okay, but if you want to change games, it takes a Hurculean effort to remove the Game Boy from the carrying case. My eight year old cannot do this himself. The only items that were worthwhile are the carrying strap (which cannot be used if you place the game in the carrying case!), and the additional battery. What an unfortunate waste of money!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed, December 26, 2005

My son just received his new Game Boy and this starter kit for Christmas. I am very disappointed with the kit. As some of you have indicated, it does not contain the car adaptor or ear buds. Other problems - docking station cannot be utilized while the magnifier is attached. Also, the extremely small carry case cannot be used if the magnifier is attached. So why not just remove the magnifier you ask? It is attached quite snuggly and my 5 year old cannot remove it without the possibility of breaking it.

I also have been watching this product. The only review prior was obviously for the game console itself. The product description doesn't describe what the photo depicts. If any one knows if the product actually contains the pictured ear buds and car charger please comment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confused about item description, December 6, 2005
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Game Boy Advance SP Starter Kit- Cobalt/Indigo (Video Game)
I'm not rating the product on display I'm rating the product description given by amazon. In the main picture it shows what looks like a car adaptor and a set of ear-buds. But those item do not exsist in the decription or in the extra pictures found when you inlarge the first picture. I want this set only IF it HAS the car adaptor and ear buds. I tried to contact amazon through a report about this product but I haven't received an answer and it's almost time for Christmas. Can Anyone out there help?
