Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Match wits, nerve and strategy with friends in CATCH 22, a game that's fun and sociable but highly competitive too. Set out to capture 22 gold tokens by landing on the jackpots scattered around the game board. But beware. Your opponents may use their blocker cubes to obstruct your path, or they might try to steal your gold tokens by landing on your game piece. Of course, you can do the same to them. And be careful of other hazards.....you just rolled 2 spaces short of the jackpot and land on a 'switch spaces' square, which forces you to change places with an opponent. In Catch 22, fortunes can change with a single roll of the die. Be the first to exit with 22 Gold Tokens and you win. Includes large game board, blocker cubes, gold play tokens, game pawns, die and instruction sheet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Fun and Fast Moving, October 31, 2003

I saw this game advertised as winning a 'Major Fun Award' and you can bet your bottom dollar, this game is major fun. You cannot help but have fun playing Catch 22. As the name suggests, you need to catch 22 chips and exit the game board to win. But, also as the name suggests, you might find yourself in a 'Catch 22' situation. For example, once you win alot of chips, everybody else is going to try and catch you to steal your chips. Or, a player might land on a switch places square and when you thought you were home free, you are forced to switch places with an opponent. The strategy part is that you have 'Blocker Cubes' to try and clear a path for yourself or indeed block an opponents path. But be careful, you only have five cubes and once you use them up, you must land on a square which allows you to collect a blocker cube from the board. This is simply a fantastic game. It is fast moving and heart stopping. I cannot tell you how many times someone was on the verge of winning and in a heart beat, all their chips were stolen. Really, you should definitely try this game, I highly recommend it if you are into having fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Recommendation, September 2, 2002

Having twice played Catch 22 at a friend's house during this past week, I can happily say that it is not a strategy game in the dull, two-years-to-learn-the rules way. It's fun. A blurb on the back of the box describes the premise - accurately in my opinion - as "take the money and run". The board you're moving around is labyrinth-like, with token-filled jackpots seemingly positioned on every corner. What are called `blocker cubes' have the effect of empowering the players (not to mention that they are fun to hold!), and they provide the real twist to the play - these are the devices used by players to trap/thwart each other. When we played, we avoided the temptation of using quarters and other forms of 'real money' as substitutes for the play tokens (largely because there were children playing along with us), although I can easily see why others might not be able to resist. I also appreciate that, unlike most other games I've played of this genre, which are only designed for two players, this game can be played by up to 6 people (our first game involved 4 players, the second involved 6). Last but not least, you're always using your brain to figure out your next move. This gets my recommendation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Strategy, Less fun, December 2, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

This game is not as high quality as it could be, all be it it's a simple game. The pieces consist of little blocks and chips, which are like the really old thin plastic poker chips. All you do is roll the die and try to get the most chips by landing on them, with the other people placing blockers hear and there to get you from reaching your goal. I guess the game is somewhat unpredictable, because anyone can land on you and take all your chips away, but it gets monotonous after a while, and the game just isn't as high quality as most. Overall it's an alright game, but if you have a lot of other high-quality games (Cranium, Monopoly, etc.) I doubt this is for you.
