5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Fun and Fast Moving
I saw this game advertised as winning a 'Major Fun Award' and you can bet your bottom dollar, this game is major fun. You cannot help but have fun playing Catch 22. As the name suggests, you need to catch 22 chips and exit the game board to win. But, also as the name suggests, you might find yourself in a 'Catch 22' situation. For example, once you win alot of chips,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Strategy, Less fun
This game is not as high quality as it could be, all be it it's a simple game. The pieces consist of little blocks and chips, which are like the really old thin plastic poker chips. For example, once you win alot of chips, everybody else is going to try and catch you to steal your chips. Or, a player might land on a switch places square and when you thought you were home free, you are forced to switch places with an opponent. The strategy part is that you have 'Blocker Cubes' to try and clear a path for yourself or indeed block an opponents path. But be careful, you only have five cubes and once you use them up, you must land on a square which allows you to collect a blocker cube from the board. This is simply a fantastic game. It is fast moving and heart stopping. I cannot tell you how many times someone was on the verge of winning and in a heart beat, all their chips were stolen. Really, you should definitely try this game, I highly recommend it if you are into having fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Recommendation, September 2, 2002

Having twice played Catch 22 at a friend's house during this past week, I can happily say that it is not a strategy game in the dull, two-years-to-learn-the rules way. It's fun. A blurb on the back of the box describes the premise - accurately in my opinion - as "take the money and run". The board you're moving around is labyrinth-like, with token-filled jackpots seemingly positioned on every corner. What are called `blocker cubes' have the effect of empowering the players (not to mention that they are fun to hold!), and they provide the real twist to the play - these are the devices used by players to trap/thwart each other. When we played, we avoided the temptation of using quarters and other forms of 'real money' as substitutes for the play tokens (largely because there were children playing along with us), although I can easily see why others might not be able to resist. I also appreciate that, unlike most other games I've played of this genre, which are only designed for two players, this game can be played by up to 6 people (our first game involved 4 players, the second involved 6). Last but not least, you're always using your brain to figure out your next move. This gets my recommendation.

All you do is roll the die and try to get the most chips by landing on them, with the other people placing blockers hear and there to get you from reaching your goal. I guess the game is somewhat unpredictable, because anyone can land on you and take all your chips away, but it gets monotonous after a while, and the game just isn't as high quality as most. Overall it's an alright game, but if you have a lot of other high-quality games (Cranium, Monopoly, etc.) I doubt this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game!, June 23, 2002

If you love the unpredictable, then Catch 22 is for you. This game has plenty of social interaction and combines skill with luck in the pursuit of 22 gold tokens. Just when I thought I was about to win the game, my boyfriend landed on my game piece and stole all of my tokens. Boy, that did not make me happy at all. The key to this game is to use your blocker cubes wisely. The cubes are used to either block an opponents way or safeguard your path to the money. Once you use the cubes, you can only retrieve them by landing on a 'collect blocker' square. You can collect any blocker cube placed on the board, including your opponent's cubes. I made lots of money selling blocker cubes back to my opponents. We were so addicted to this game that we played it all night long. I highly recommend it, but be prepared to either win big or lose your shirt!.

5.0 out of 5 stars fabulous game for families and adults!!!, November 15, 2002

I bought this game in order to spend some quality time with my family - at the cottage, and on Sunday evenings. What a great investment. The best aspects of this game are that it is interactive (players chase each other), it is very quick to learn (great with kids), and the outcome is in doubt right up until the end. Adults can certainly substitute money for tokens and have a ball, and kids are just happy to be clobbering their parents or siblings. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend this game!!!

I played this game with my 13 year old daughter and my wife and a friend. This is a wonderful addition to our boardgame collection. It's really a game of pursuit - reminiscent of Packman in a way. Great fun chasing everyone around and trying to escape the traps you've set for others - and gotten caught in yourself. Easy to learn and great fun. Perfect for adults, and for the entire family!
