This is one of the games my friends and I played to death. It is very fun and simple, yet having some mathematical skills on probabilities doesn't hurt. The purpose of the game is to fill your score sheet as much as possible by making the different combinations required. The more you do the higher the score, and multiple yahtzee's (five of a kind) scores you bonuses. There are different editions of this game but this one is the best. Here is why:

REDESIGNED: This edition of Yahtzee comes with a felt-lined cup and tray. Remember how loud it is to use the plastic cup in the original edition? Well now it's very quiet and the tray keeps the dice from going everywhere. The dice are over size which is a nice touch. It also has a dice keeper where you can place the dice you will not re-roll.

PLAYING MATERIALS: The folio comes with a score pad and an engraved pencil. But it also has room to store more pencils and pads. You can even store a Triple Yahtzee pad if you have any. Triple Yahtzee is kind of a Yahtzee Advanced that isn't sold anymore although you can still find the scoring pads and instructions on the net (which is all you need).

PORTABLE: You can drag this game anywhere. And since you can play solo it's great to take to your doctor's appointment. That is if you don't mind people asking where you got that cool Yahtzee game. It's perfect for travel and the zippered case is very nice and durable.

Overall the game is great and this folio edition is a must buy for any Yahtzee fan. By the way I saw someone once roll three yahtzees in a row and finish with ten yahtzees in a six round game. I know you can do better... if you try. Have Fun!

I was very pleased with this item. It is great looking, well made and will be very easy to take on a trip, etc. Very well worth it!

This is a really nice edition of Yahtzee to have on-hand either for travel or even just at home. It comes with a better-class lined shaker and good, heavy dice. Other travel versions of this game have proven a little skimpy on the quality of the dice, but this one is a step above.

The zipper case is good quality too with a nice zipper pull. This will pack in an overnight bag as easily as a hardcover novel or business binder.

The game of Yahtzee speaks for itself!

These seem to be a little hard to find now (though the folio edition of Scrabble is still very much on the store shelves), so grab one while you can.

I've played Yahtzee since I was young. My sons started playing last year and now we play all the time. I bought this travel set for my oldest son to take on trips, to use at sports tournaments while passing the time, etc... The zipper case is great, the spaces to store the dice are nice, all around a great purchase!

Only positives to report on this awesome zip-up version. We've played it in a car, in a plane, in a bed, on a couch and at the table. No-maintenance, quality entertainment.
It is well-made. A felt-lined playing area with raised sides holds the leather(-ette?), felt-lined shaker when it's not in use. The good-sized, ivory-colored dice can be stored on the side of this space, either during play (No more, "Wait, was that a two or a six?") or for storage. Original shiny, black "Yahtzee" pencil included, along with storage holder for it and the score pad. This thing is space-station ready.
My son and I have been playing since he was 5. I am not an educator yet I do reckon that he's learned something from it: strategic thinking (comparison to past games on his score sheet, into which slot does the roll fit best, how likely am I to get another roll like this in the turns I have left, etc.); the math of the individual rolls as well as of the end-of-the-game sums; last but not least, he's learning the poker hands. Who's to say but that that might turn out to be a good fall-back position in future years?!

This Folio edition is very nice! The dice are high quality and have a heavier feel than regular dice. The shaker is lined with felt, as is the surface where you throw them, so it muffles the noise. The case is well-made too. Overall, a really nice set. It may cost 4 times as much as the basic set but it is 10 times nicer. Really worth the extra money!
