Hasbro succeeds in ruining a classic game,

I purchased this game with the intent of replacing my very bad shape old version. In the old version of the game you could "Play the Market." Don't expect to find it is this version. There is no playing the market. Don't expect to have a "Day of Reckoning." This doesn't work as it does in the original. Now you draw cards for careers rather than spinning the wheel. This candy coated, politically correct version of the original made me sick. This was not near as much fun to play as the original. Many aspects of the game have been removed. Keep playing the old version, or buy one at a garage sale. You will have much more fun. I give the old version a five of five. Bottom line, if you liked the original game, don't buy this one, unless you need replacement cars/pegs.

I grew up playing this game, and really enjoyed playing it. I love the idea of going through the game and making money, learning about different professions. The educational value of the game has really grown over the last 15 years too. Now you get to choose your occupation, and salary through cards. I have to say that I'm faily unimpressed with the "Life Tile" feature of the game, though, it has no application in the real world. If I could change one thing about the game, I would make it so the game didn't FORCE you to get married or have children, and change things so that there were advantages of doing that. Unlike the original board game, the durability of the game box leaves much to be desired. The tin the game comes in is almost impossible to close correctly. And the old game with the plastic cars worked fine, putting in the pegs for the people in the car. This game has a metal car, and the pegs don't stay in the car very well at all. Also, because they had to fit the game into a square box, the game board folds into quarters, and the spinner you spin to move swings on the board. The spinner has always been a pain (get a 10-sided die and roll that instead!), but this spinner REALLY STINKS! If I could make a suggestion, don't spend the money to get this edition of the game, get the normal board game instead.

This game does not teach any life lessons, as the older (1960s) version did. You never worry about getting poor, or making errors, because everything always turns out well in this politically-correct version that dumbs down our children.Don't buy it. Get the older version on internet auction, yard sale or thrift store. It's much more fun and educational. Hasbro, are you listening? Durability: This is as durable as any other board game. No real complaints in that department.

I was highly disappointed to find out I did not buy "The Game of Life"; what I did buy was a garbeage re-make of a one-time favorite game. If you like the original, go and find an original. This is a watered-down, no offense, travesty of a game. The career "options" aspect of the game doesn't even make sense. If you want a different game than the original, get this game, you may enjoy it. Just remember, the only thing that is the same as the original is the name.

This game is not even close to the game I once knew. We played this for family game night and it was the last time we will play it. The game is so different in this version, that I had to learn all new rules. One thing that has changed is that there is no real advantage to education (which costs money) - so my husband and I opted out on that! Now why would I want my kids to think education is not important? Not the lesson I want my kids learning! The worst part however is that if you are the lucky one to get the career of Tech Support (which does not require college), you get $50,000 dollars every time the spinner gets off or hangs on the peg. This is above and beyond the salary for that job. Now the spinner is so poor quality that it hangs at least 30% of the time. Top salary is $100,000, low salary $20,000. You do the math. If you are tech support, you rake in the money and no one else has any chance of winning. None whatsoever! This made the game - not fun. Every spin we all waited with dread - well except the one with Tech Support as a career. I wasn't to keen on the life tokens either. They have a value range of $50,000 - 250,000 and you only find out at the end if you were lucky. One of us got so many big dollar tiles we almost beat the Tech support person. Winning a game should not be based on frequent spinner debacles, or the luck of life tiles. I recommend getting the remake of the original version by Winning Moves here on Amazon, or an older original game at a garage sale. My collectors edition is going to the thrift store and I have a message to Parker Brothers - if it isn't broken, don't fix it! You really messed up on this one!

I got this for my grown kids who played the board game version when they were growing up. This a real find. They enjoy the compact size and the memories associated with the game are a plus. They play it and don't seem to find the problems some of the other reviewers are mentioning. Overall childhood memories in a collectors tin.

I love how fun this game is! My family and I first discovered Life at a garage sale! The version we got must of been the first because it was so funny and not to mention beat up!!!! We all said it was stupid but I think that we all secretly had a blast with it!!! Now we have most of the versions and are practically collectors!! I really think everyone should enjoy this game in their own homes!!!!
