Hangs All Kinds of Big Game for Processing, February 22, 2011
This review is from: Big Game MLS01-V Magnum Lift System (Sports)
With this pully lift system, I can easily hoist a deer, even a heavy one, all alone, safely. The pulley system gives a 75% let-off in weight, so hoisting a 200 pound animal, feels like pulling 50 pounds. The metal bars fits into the hind legs of the animal being processed. Hoisting the animal is easy, as the handle the rope threads through will lock into place when depressed (turned downward). Thus, one can sequentially lift the animal several feet at a time until the desired height is achieved. The instructions claim the unit will support game up to 500 pounds.
There is only one drawback as far as I am concerned, and that is the poly-rope. The poly-rope is needed for strength, but it tends to be quite slippery, and because it is a small diameter rope, it tends to pinch my hands as I hoist the game up. To solve this, I use leather gloves to get a good grip on the rope, and the leather gloves also protect my hands from getting pinched by the rope.
One reviewer commented that he had difficulty releasing the rope and lowering the animal back down. I have not had an difficulty in this regard. When the handle is pushed upward, the rope will release and the animal will lower. Sometimes it takes a tug to release the rope, but I have never had it bind.

There's better options, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Big Game MLS01-V Magnum Lift System (Sports)
This hoist has a few things that work against making it a success - first off the "locking" feature is terrific for locking the game in an up position... but there's no practical way to get it to release to lower the game... it becomes a one way ticket up! Frustrating.
That's not even the worst part - the material the rope is made from should be banned (ok - maybe that's a little extreme)... but the point is it's slippery and tough to hold in place or even pull. I have a really old block and tackle set that's easier to operate over all than this one.
The gambrel for hanging the deer on is terrific... replace the rope and don't think about the locking mechanism and you have a fairly decent lift setup...

This product does everything it says it will do. What a saver when you are out in the woods. It makes dressing them out much easier.
