Ramin Djawadi was off my radar until last year when I heard the "Clash of the Titans and "Safe House" soundtracks. I now consider him one of my favorites. I love how he approached Game of Thrones season two by taking the themes from season one and making them more complex and placing them into nearly every track. He introduces two new themes that I love which are the Pyke (Theon's) Theme and Dragonstone (Stannis) Theme. Each of those can be heard several times throughout the soundtrack.

While Game of Thrones doesn't compare to sweeping epic scores like Lord of the Rings, Djawadi chose to go in a unique direction creating a distinct mood for the entire series with his rich and subtle score. This year's soundtrack is more listenable without the visual accompanyment than last year. I plan on listening to this score more than last year. He does a good job with grand themes, mixing different instruments to account for the different environments, and handling action and romantic cues with great skill. I reccomend buying this soundtrack if you loved the show and appriciate a good soundtrack. I also think it is great to listen to it while reading the books. This soundtrack gets me excited to see where Djawadi will take the score for season three.

Favorite Tracks:
"What is Dead May Never Die"
"Warrior of Light"
"Don't Die With a Clean Sword"
"Pay the Iron Price"
"Mother of Dragons"
"I Will Keep You Safe"

I don't think I can say yet whether this album is better or worse than Season 1: all I can say is that it's different, but just as good. The `Main Title' theme remains unchanged from Season 1, with its primary motif representing the North, until Daenerys' theme joins it exactly one minute in - a real Song of Ice and Fire. As in Season 1, Djawadi doesn't arrange the music in the order that it appears in the show, but this time the first seven tracks work as suites for the main themes of Season 2.

First comes `The Throne is Mine', which is an exciting and more dire remix of the Baratheon theme from `The King's Arrival' in Season 1, with a bit of `Await the King's Justice' thrown in as a bridge. Then there's the Greyjoy theme, `What is Dead May Never Die', which is a simple, yet quite uplifting, tune: it almost makes me root for Theon - almost. The theme re-appears in `Pay The Iron Price', but there it takes on a horrible grating tone as we realize to what lengths Theon will go.

There's also `Warrior of Light', a haunting and powerful theme to represent the unholy union of Stannis and Melisandre. `Valar Morghulis' features Jaqen's music, which sounds as exotic and magical as he is. A similar style of composition is used in `Qarth', which is fitting as Jaqen comes from the lands beyond the Narrow Sea, as does Melisandre. `Winterfell' reprises the Stark theme featured throughout Season 1, most prominently in the tracks `Goodbye Brother' and `Kill Them All'.

The three tracks, `Wildfire', `Don't Die With A Clean Sword' and `Stand And Fight', come from the Battle of Blackwater Bay and feature some heart-pounding action music. However, the tracks are spread out so that the listener doesn't get battle fatigue.

I have yet to start the book series, however the TV series is superb, and one of the reasons is that it has an excellent score. Don't be surprised when the title theme gets stuck in your head. the rest of the album is great as well. I'm looking forward to the Spring Season to see how Ramin Djawadi scores the next season.

Fantastic soundtrack for the best show on television. HBO has hit a home-run with this production. A Song of Ice and Fire is truly brought to life in this amazing work! I've been waiting for the soundtrack since the first episode of season first aired. Enjoy!

This CD plays better in the car than the first season in that there seems to be more leveling in volume. Good mix of themes, the Main Theme is hearkened back to on several tracks. If you love GoT, and languish between seasons, this will take you there.

The producers of Game of thrones put a lot of time to make their show, and their soundtrack amazing! Beautiful symphony pieces that will bring back memories of the show as you listen. One of the best soundtracks I've gotten in a long time.

This is the perfect soundtrack to the second season. It takes the good parts of the first season, and builds off of them. But then since the story and characters are also evolving, the soundtrack does as well. There are a few tracks which are downright perfect.
