'Techno-Pop' girl band from Japan,
By dovefancier (London, England, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Game (Audio CD)
This is a unique 'techno-pop' group of three 19-year-old Japanese girls from Hiroshima. If you have enjoyed listening to J-Pop, electronic, dance, house and techno music before, I'd say you should at least try to listen to some of their songs & sound - I guarantee you'll like them and the producer, Nakata's style of music. It's difficult to describe their style in a few words, but the three girls seem to call their style as 'techno-pop', which YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra) used to be famous for in the late 1970s & the early 80s. I must say it's well produced and utterly enjoyable to listen to. Each song has some memorable bits in its melody, for instance, 'Poly-rhythm' and 'Chocolate Disco' are very good! This is not an ordinary pop-idol group exclusively for teenagers, but if you consider yourself as a 'techno-pop' fan from the 70s & the 80s, or even the techno + House from the 1990s, you should definitely have a go. If you have a chance to see their video clips, you may notice that their dance is quite good too - despite their age, they have years of experience as performers during their obscure times. I think their well choreographed movement is also an important part of the attraction of this group. FYI, there are two versions of this CD, namely this ordinary version and the 'limited edition', which comes with a bonus DVD. It's a Japanese import that means it's slightly costly, but it's still worth getting hold of it. The ordinary version is much cheaper, but without the supplement DVD means you'll miss their choreography in live performances, and some songs which are only contained in the DVD. However, some of the songs featured in this CD (+ bonus DVD in the limited edition) can be seen on YouTube anyway, so find out yourself what they really look + sound like, and let's see if you agree with me?? I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Hope this helps!

FYI, there are two versions of this CD, namely ordinary version and this 'limited edition' which comes with a bonus DVD. It's a Japanese import that means it's slightly costly, but even in the Japanese market it's already hard to get hold of this limited edition which seems to be costing somewhere around 6,000 yen (about 60.00 USD!) in auctions, so it's not so dramatically expensive. The ordinary version is much cheaper, but without the supplement DVD means you'll miss their choreography and live performances, and some songs which are only contained in the DVD. So if you find the limited edition you'd better consider getting it sooner rather than later. However, some of the songs featured in this CD (+ bonus DVD) can be seen on YouTube anyway, so find out yourself what they really look + sound like, and let's see if you agree with me?? You can't go wrong with this album. Lovers of Perfume, Jpop, and electropop will love listening to this album for hours. Starting from one of their most famous hits, Polyrhythm, and keeping through all the way to Ceramic Girl, and til Puppy Love, you will be stuck to this album from the moment the first couple lyrics fly out from your speaker! If you are a true Perfume fan, you will not regret getting this album! This is truly an album worth having! |
