I would recommend this to add to your music collection.

The stakes have been raised a lot in terms of what characters have to lose, and when that happens it allows the music to support the story more.

Composer Ramin Djawadi is doing great work in both film and television, and returns to compose the score for Season 3 of the show.

For me, there are 3 tracks that really stand out on this soundtrack. "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts" is one, a heroic orchestral version of 'The Rains of Castamere' that will definitely get you humming. Then there's "Myhsa", a rendition of the Daenerys theme for female and children's voices, undoubtedly the most soaringly beautiful thing Djawadi has ever composed. Finally, "For the Realm" is the main title theme played by Djawadi himself on an unaccompanied classical guitar.

My problem with this album, though, is that Djawadi seems to rely too much on themes from seasons 1 & 2 and hasn't created enough new material. "Dracarys" is a military setting of the Daenerys theme, with male choir and percussion - it's good, but over far too soon. "Chaos is a Ladder" begins and ends with an interesting motif reminiscent of Mansell's "Requiem for a Dream", but the rest of it we've heard before in Season 2. "I Have to Go North" is also nice, but it's essentially just a reworking of 'The King in the North' from Season 1.

Of course there is some new material, eg. in "You Know Nothing", but it's not very melodic or memorable. The one completely new theme written for season 3 was for the song 'The Bear and the Maiden Fair'. Presented on this album is the rock version heard in the Episode 3 credits. It's nice enough, but is really only worth listening to for a minute and a half. What I am really missing here is the instrumental/diegetic version of the song played at Tyrion's wedding, as well as at The Red Wedding. Now that was a lively jig and would've made me a lot happier had it been included on this album!

There are other enjoyable tracks, like "Wall of Ice" and "White Walkers", which develop the musical soundscape of the North in a sophisticated and satisfying way.

By the 3rd album I have started to sense a over-arching theme to Djawadi's Game of Thrones score. The first season was an intro to the world and the score had a more epic feel. The second season is when Westros is at war and the score reflects that with violent and bombastic themes. The third album, however, creates a very somber mood that accurately portrays the events in the novels and T.V. show. My by far favorite song on this album (if I HAD to pick just one 'cause they're all so good) would have to be A Lannister Always Pays His Debts. This is an extended and orchestral version of the Rains of Castamere song from the second album...too GOOD!!!

It's hard to find someone who hasn't seen Game Of Thrones and it's definitely one of the most popular shows on television right now. Fans of the books and show alike were treated to a stunning third season that finally saw some raw emotion pumped into what can be a slow show at times. I admit, I had to truck through the first two seasons struggling to connect to these characters. The show took a dialogue-heavy approach that left little room for score to work dramatically, and I'm a person who needs score in whatever I'm watching. Other than the fantastic main title theme the show never had "musical moments". Everything changed in season 3 as the show really took off. Season 3 of Game Of Thrones is not only the series' best music but it's also some of the best work from Ramin Djawadi.

The stakes have been raised a lot in terms of what characters have to lose, and when that happens it allows the music to support the story more. Djawadi had always successfully established a unique fantasy sound grounded in realism. I mean the music sounds like it's capturing a time period in history, and that's amazing. Ramin has effectively established a time period that doesn't exist and he did it through music. That makes it timeless. This season saw characters breaking apart more into their own separate journeys. This gave room for focus and the music rose to that calling. The motifs are so strong in this album and Ramin was even able to build superb dramatic tension and suspense. Everything was sonically superb. The music also references the main title theme a lot more than in the past two seasons, and the strength of that theme is something to behold. I found the music to take on a new sense of elegance as well since we saw a lot more romance.

One of the best aspects of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" is the music. Composer Ramin Djawadi is doing great work in both film and television, and returns to compose the score for Season 3 of the show. Once again, the music is masterful - it works within the series, but it's also pleasant to listen to on its own.

Ever since the first season, the Main Theme for "Game of Thrones" has been one of my favorite TV themes - and its a highlight of this album. There is a lot of diversity on this soundtrack; a good balance of intensity and emotion. Vocals are used throughout the album to interesting effect; the tracks "Dracarys" and "Mhysa" are great examples of this.

FAVORITE TRACKS:
[1] Main Title (Season 3)
[2] A Lannister Always Pays His Debts
[13] Reek
[18] Mhysa

I also highly recommend the first two "Game of Thrones" soundtracks:
Game Of Thrones
Game Of Thrones: Season 2
