Having just started playing the game of Go I wanted a portable set that I could take with me.

This set fits the bill PERFECTLY. Here's the bits...

Board: Flexible plastic game board with a magnetic backing is durable and easy to wipe down. The stones stick quite nicely. You can't quite roll the board up with stones in place, but you CAN pick it up and move it around without dropping stones all over the place for kittens, children and the occasional gremlin to run off with. PLUS!!!! With the board being magnetic, you can attach it to a magnetic whiteboard, fridge, or whatever to use it as a teaching tool. The magnets in the stones are strong enough to hold in place when hung vertically.

Bags and Stones: The bags are nice durable cloth with a drawstring at the top. The drawstring also has a plastic clip on it to prevent the bag from reopening. The stones are about the size of a dime in diameter with a small magnet visible on the bottom. They're very light when held one at a time, but gain a nice solid feel once placed on the magnetized board.

Case: Absolutely perfect. It's a good quality hard-side case (hard plastic tube covered in nylon). The ends (one enclosed, one zippered) are soft. The ONLY drawback on the case is that they skimped on the carry strap. This is easily remedied by finding one you prefer.

Overall, this is a fabulous little set and well worth the money for the Go player on the...well....Go!

Wow, this set is so nice. I expected way less from a traveling set.

The board is magnetic and can be rolled up into the case. When placed on the table, it doesn't curl up one bit. The board is nice and big and easy to use.

The bags are very soft and also fit into the case along with everything else perfectly.

The stones are very magnetic to the board, which is awesome. They don't move around at all even when you shake the board. They are, however, a little smaller than what I'd prefer, and stick to each other when they are in the bags. But other than that, they are fine.

The case is very nice, and has an adjustable strap to fit around all sizes, which is superb.

Overall, this is a PERFECT travel set for the price. If you are in a Go club, and/or like to play outside of your house (coffee shop, friend's house, etc.), this is a perfect set to get. "Go" for it! You won't regret it!

Product is engineered well and pieced together effectively. The carrying case and stones/bags are really nice. Product is manufactured and from China.

Unfortunately I have one complaint and I feel its fair to warn other customers that the product outgasses a strong plastic smell from the magnet board. This is common with products manufactured that combine bendable or roll-able magnets. I have a strong allergy to these products and I have had to begin a return authorization. As much as I feel this could be a great product, some people suffering from asthma or sinus allergies should be cautious as they may find it hard to breathe around.

This is a fantastic traveling Go set. The carrying case is very sturdy, with a strap that can be adjusted. The strap can be made long enough to go across your body for hands free carrying. The bags for the stones are very nicely made. It is very nice to have a full size board in a traveling set. Both board and stones are magnetic.

I play Go at a couple of locations in the Honolulu area and travel by bus to get there. This portable Go set is absolutely ideal for my purposes for these reasons:

1) It's lightweight and easy to carry; everything goes into the carrying tube, which has a shoulder strap (if you ever ride the bus you'll appreciate this). Serendipitously, I can also fit my DGT 960 folding game clock into the tube, and rolled up printouts of Go problems and the like, so I can be completely prepared for play or study by carrying only one item. I would not dream of lugging a wooden board, bowls, stones, etc., on the bus.

2) It's *slightly* smaller than a "standard" Go set. Some players won't like this, nor will they like the smaller stones, but on the other hand the board fits on nearly any table at Starbucks without hanging over the edge, so I count this as a plus.

3) The board and stones are magnetic: enough to provide useful sticking power but not so much to be annoying. In a "portable" situation, when a board can easily be jostled, this is a game-saver. If you play outdoors, say at the beach tables, the magnetism is likewise most welcome.

4) Even at home, it's a great study set for coffee- or kitchen-table use. You can leave it set up and expect the stones to be where you put them when you get back.

Downsides:

1) I found that the board "creased" if bent a little too sharply, so don't do that! Rolling is fine, but accidental creasing is not.

2) Some opponents want a full-sized board. Fine, use theirs if they dragged it along.

3) The tactile and aural sensations of shell/slate on fine wood are absent. This is not a small point, but remember in a portable set you can't expect this.

Overall, this set is great. You may think it is a little expensive but it provides full value for your money and looks like it will last a very long time (if you are careful abou the creasing problem). If you are at all serious about playing Go "on the move" this is right for you.

As a beginning Go player, I wanted to have something ultra portable that I could carry around practically everywhere but still be of decent quality. Well, this set blew me away.

As long as you accept the fact that this isn't going to have the "snap" of stones on wood, (some people won't play on non-wood boards because of this) you won't be disappointed. Upon receiving the set, I saw that YMI doesn't just sell this here on Amazon, they are also the manufacturer and the quality is excellent. Even the printing on the magnetic board is very crisp and doesn't have a cheap, low-quality feel at all.

The stones are plastic with a small, magnetic metal nub at the bottom. (metal! not a cheap, black magnet) They're smaller than standard size but are a good match with this board. Since they are magnetic, they are perfect for those times you have a less than stable area to play --such as in a plane, train or car.

Even the carrying pouches for the stones are of nice quality.. draw string with a locking catch... I wish they made something like this for full sized stones!

I still am going to get a slotted board and standard sized stones for those times where I want to be a "little less portable." (Also from YMI because of their attention to detail even with this "econo-set") But this set fills a nice little niche for those that want something more substantial than pocket sized Go sets but don't have the room to carry around a full size folding board and stones. Great job YMI.. you've won a new loyal customer.

This Go set is exactly what I was expecting. The board is big enough to comfortably play a 19x19 game. The pieces don't feel as satisfying as real stones, but they get the job done. The board is magnetic enough to place vertically on a surface (I tried my refrigerator) and the pieces stick without falling off. The form factor is excellent -- the board and pieces all fit inside a travel-friendly tube with shoulder strap. Most importantly, this set does not feel cheap. The other travel sets I have tried felt like toys but this feels like an actual board.

Overall, great set! I keep it in my car so I am always ready for a game :)

I recently bought from Yellow Mountain Imports the "Deluxe Go Game Roll Up Magnetic Portable Set". It is gorgeous, and much more than I expected or hoped for.

I wanted a portable travel board, but assumed it would be so far behind a full wooden board that it wouldn't be much fun to play on. It turned out much the opposite. The quality of the case, the board, and the well-made stones themselves are outstanding. They even come in a pair of beautiful colored cloth drawstring pouches which slide perfectly into the middle of the carrying tube.

Finally, both experiences I had asking questions with their customer service received lightning quick (next or same day) replies, and 100% helpful. I have ZERO complaints about this company, and will be ordering from them again in the future

This is a very nice travel set. The mat and stones are smaller than I thought they would be, but it's adequate for a travel size. The board is great and easy to layout. As for the stones and carrying pouches, the stones have a magnetic bottom and dont stick to eachother too much in the bag. They stick to the mat just enough so that they dont move even though you tilt the board while the stones are on. Highly recommended set, beats carrying a board game around in a box.

Was not clear from the advertisement that these boards are non-standard size. I expected this to be a tournament sized roll-up board. Instead It's a miniature board. Extremely disappointing.
