I was finally able to get my hands on this little gem from Nintendo. I would like to start this off by saying that I highly recommend purchasing any of Nintendo's accessories. They may be a few dollars more than Mad Catz, Interact, or Pelican, but with Nintendo you get durable and reliable products. Trust me, this is from personal experiences of buying and having to...

The Nintendo Memory Card 251 is the largest 1st party memory card offered to Gamecube users. It does a great job with fast saves/loads. I did get a corrupted file once with the game Ikaruga, but other than that the performance has been fine. Trust me, this is from personal experiences of buying and having to return third-party products. If you haven't bought a card for your Gamecube yet, I'd say skip the Memory Card 59 and buy this one. If you have, buy this one anyway! You're gonna need this baby if you have or plan to buy any of the current or upcoming sports games such as Home Run King(34 blocks), MLS Extratime 2002(54 blocks), Fifa World Cup 2002(49 blocks), Sega's NBA 2K2(46 blocks), and All-Star Baseball 2003(58 blocks for Season, 153 for Midseason). It's also useful for storing a bunch of mid-range memory games like Burnout(19 blocks), Virtua Stiker(15 blocks), Blitz 2002(17 blocks), Legends of Wrestling(12 blocks), Wrestlemania X8(14 blocks), Resident Evil(8-40 blocks, depending on number of saved games), and Eternal Darkness(15 blocks). This thing is also a great space-saver, unless you rather have 25 regular memory cards scattered around your room. With this, you'll have one card and you'll be ready for Nintendo's future game onslaught. If my review was helpful to you, then don't forget to vote. THANKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a decent OFFICIAL memory card, November 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube 251 Memory Card (Video Game)
There's not much to address in the way of memory cards. You buy them, you save games, you're happy. Only when you have to go out and buy yet another memory card are you then sad. That was what we encountered on the memory card 59. Unless, 3rd PARTY. Woo hoo! then all your files are deleated. Oh no. Gone are the days where gamecube owners who actually cared about their saves had to go out once a month to buy a new Memory card. The 251 is a great up grade from the far inferior 59. It holds about 4x more space, which is four times less money you have to spend on memory. This little gem is a must have for sports titles and is quite good on regular games. By the time you finish filling up this little baby, You'll more likely than not have files that may be over written or completely scrapped. On a side note, Amazon is the only place I found to have the 251.

There is only one way to use 3rd party cards efficiently, and thats as warehouses. Have your new buddy the 251 handy at all times, and when a file corrupts, Turn the system off, take out the disc and access the memory screen. Transfer the save that is being "stored" if you will, to the official product and access your memory without problems. YaY! So, in conclusion, pick this baby up with Interact's mega memory 16x card and start saving (and acessing) without problems.

The Nintendo Memory Card 251 is the largest 1st party memory card offered to Gamecube users. It does a great job with fast saves/loads. I did get a corrupted file once with the game Ikaruga, but other than that the performance has been fine. Unfortunatley 251 blocks isn't enough to save all your settings and season progress in any one sports game...let a lone all the other games you probably play! For example when I bought the awesome Madden 2004, rushed home, popped it in my GC I got a nice big error message saying I wouldn't be able to save all my settings and progress through a season. I also play other sports titles (like FIFA) so the 251 card was NOT cutting it. My solution was to find a 3rd party card with more memory, but a good track record in terms of not corrupting files (some of the large 3rd party ones are known for corrupting often). That really led me to only 1 option: the Nyko 64Mb card allowing over 1000 blocks of data to be saved. After some heavy use it still hasn't corrupted any files and actually loads better than the 251 card! The best part is that the HUGE 64Mb card is the same price as the very tiny 251. Do yourself a favor and just get the Nyko 64Mb.

5.0 out of 5 stars You a gamblin' person? Buy a 3rd party accessory., July 30, 2002

Listen, you're putting your save games on this thing right? You've spent hours unlocking the secret characters, stages, cars, etc., why risk putting it on a 3rd party accesory? Like other reviewers have mentioned, always buy Nintendo the accessories with the Nintendo seal of approval. I have stories about how 3rd party hardware not only broke itself, but broke my console. 3rd party stuff may be cheaper but hey, you get what you pay for (its not THAT much cheaper anyway). Anyway, to the product...

I Own 3 games for GameCube: Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Eternal Darknes; Sanity's Requiem, I've rented many others, and more games are coming out, so of course I have alot of save games. I have two memory card 59s, and they're full. The memory card 251 is the second best GameCube accessory to get (behind more controllers of course). Before you go buying a WaveBird, buy the 251 memory card (the WaveBirds are a tad pricey if you ask me, this is a much better value). To the reviewer who said, "who uses that much memory anyway?" People with more than 1 game do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult you, but more games WILL come out, and its also nice to have the memory for screenshots and crash replays (Super Smash Bros. Melee and Burnout), and of course for extra saves (just in case your save yourself into a dead end).

Bottom line: for only 20 bucks, this is the best value accesory for the GameCube.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Memory, July 4, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: GameCube 251 Memory Card (Video Game)
This is the best memory card for the Game Cube.
It's the best because:
1.It's 1st party.(Made by Nintendo)
2.Holds 4.25423728813559322033898305084746 more space as the 59.
3.Better color(Black,finally)
4.Better than buying 4.25423728813559322033898305084746 memory card 59.
5.Still compact.
6.Great price.
Now for the Cons:None!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Required item for gamecube, February 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube 251 Memory Card (Video Game)
I've see alot of reviews for the new consoles about people compaining that they didn't realize you need a memory card, well you do, so you might as well buy this one, since it's the best one out there.
It hold 251 blocks, hence the name, which means that it will hold almost all of your games. The games i play use only a few blocks, so this means I can fit everything else on one card. Plus this is only about 5 bucks more than the original card and holds 5 times as much.
There are several non-Nintendo made cards available that hold more, I think the most is over 1000 blocks. However many of those cards are unreliable and have corrupted many people's data. When you play games that take 50+ hours, your data is very importaint. If you are going to risk your data with a 3rd party card, go with MadCatz. But I would stick with this one; I have never known anyone or seen an online post of anyone who has lost data on a Nintendo card.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS CARD, August 28, 2002

First off, never buy non-Nintendo licensed equipment for your Gamecube. Most third-party companys don't test their products by Nintendo's standards and most thrid-party equipment will cause problems with your Gamecube or will break very easily (A Interact Memory card corrupted itself every time my friend tried to save games where as my memory card went through the wash and worked perfectly fine). This card is only $more that then mem card 59, and holds 4 times the memory! Most fo the Gamecube games that have been released recently require 5-10 blocks to save (ie: Super Mario Sunshine needs 7 blocks) and you will run through 59 blocks fast. Sports games tend to take all 59 blocks. The Memory Card 251 is an excellent deal, although you may not be able to find it in stores (stores are not allowed to order them from Nintendo, Nintendo just ships the stores Memory cards when they feel like it according to a wal-mart representative). This is a definate must for any Gamecube owner

This thing is really durable. I had misplaced it for six months and found it recently in the washer/dryer. It was rather warped and rusty, so I was afraid it wasn't going to work, but I had some game files on there I REALLY didn't want to lose, so... I scraped off the rust and stuck it in the GameCube. IT WORKED! Nothing was corrupted at all! And the amazing thing is I calculated it had been through approximately 500 loads of wash. Whoo! Even though the label was gone and the case was a bit warped, it was still going strong. Of course I'm going to transfer my files to another one to prevent rust damage to the GameCube, but... Fantastic durability.
(Disclaimer: Although this did happen at home, don't try it at home. Please.)

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: GameCube 251 Memory Card (Video Game)
For any Gamecube gamer this memory card is essential. I do not understand why Nintendo waited so long to create a bigger memory card than the 59, which is all but useless now.

A must buy for any serious gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memory Card 251 ROCKS!!!, November 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube 251 Memory Card (Video Game)
The Memory Card 251 from Nintendo is great!!! It has 251 blocks o memory, and is reliable. Do not get the Interact 16x card. Even though it has a lot of memory, it corrupts it. The nintendo 251 is very good for Phantasy Star Online episode I&II, where you need 28 blocks for saving some files, then lots of space for saving downloaded quests off the internet. So, if you have big block games, definetly get this memory card!!!1
