Dial up is too slow for me, so when Phantasy Star Online and the broadband Adapter became available I snagged both, intending to use high speed Internet as my means of playing online. Nintendo's mistake with this device is the limited availability. The weakness of GameCube is solely its refusal to commit to a strong line up of online games. Here it is online ready, yet this adapter is difficult to find (but far from out of print) and there's only PSO that can be used with it. Thankfully, when you can find it through a retail outlet it is reasonably priced. You can actually take your 'Cube online for less than it costs to take your XBox online... although Microsoft really does have the better online plan. This is a great peripheral, I only hope that PSO isn't the only game to utilize it... lets get some Mario Kart!

The BBA is incredible!!! I don't have PSO but I've used Mario Kart with Warp Pipe (http://www.warppipe.com) and it rocks the house!! I just snap in the adapter, use a crossover cable to connect it to my wireless computer, then go!! I admit PS2 Network Adapter is easier to set up, simply connect it to a router and go, but Warp Pipe and the BBA have the skills to math that!! Okay, so it can't surf the internet, but it's a pure GAMES CONSOLE (which is also why it's faster than the PS2 by 100MHz) You MUST buy this if you have a gamecube!!

According to the latest news, you can now use the Broadband Adapter to play Mario Kart online. It's supposed to be pretty good quality play. More info can be found at www.warppipe.com. I'm very tempted to get one now.

Mario Kart with your own screen,
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube Broadband Adapter (Video Game)
Sorry guys this is only for the serous players who commit to multiple Gamecubes and TV's, which is not a problem since my son and I each have our own of each. Hooking them together provides each person their own screen, something that evens the playing field with my son who is able to track all the other players via their screens and still control his car. Thanks for giving the olds guys a chance with a big screen and no cheating by watching the other players moves. This type of solution has been around for the PC LAN party guys for a long time (and no the PC they used don't only cost 99 bucks) so get real anyone complaining about cost. We have every game console ever made and state of the art PC, but its Mario Kart on a separate screens that we play daily. Get it now!!!

the broadband adapter is ok i guess because it has only one game out so far in its life and it is also the fastest way to play online games with the gamecube... nintendo needs to wake up and look around at the other companies (i.e. Sony, Microsoft) and what they are doing with their online capabilities... i mean come on nintendo, i have been a fan of your products since way back to the NES... ya'll need to shape up and pump-out some more online games!

The possibilities....,

The broadband adpater for the NCG is ok for what ot does. Some of your downs include: * Not being able to 'surf the net'(come even the "old" dreamcast could do this!)and limited online features. * Minimal availability, not enough for sale, a stupid concept, really.... just like what Sony did with their network adapter. just to cause a big sudden comotion of everyone trying to get their hands on one.* but other than that, Nintendo themselves, have done a decent job, but could come out with a disc, and keyboard/mouse adapter, that could either fit into the Hi speed port, or Serial Port 2. I mean.. the adapter is so cool. And so many more possibilities are right in front of us. Just making it for online game play, that's a little lame. Atleast look what X-Box and Sony are doing with their's! All of this gets that broadband adapter a 4/5 rating.-Adam (15 San Diego)

The Broadband Adapter for the Nintendo Gamecube is what we've all been waiting for. XBox and PS2 are both way ahead of Gamecube in the technology race, so this adapter that adds an ethernet port to the side of your 'Cube is a must-have. The adapter fits nicely into Seriel Port 1 on your Gamecube console. Now, regarding my title... I've seen quite a few reviews stating that this adapter does not work with Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and that it said so in the instuction pamphlet. Mark my words: this is a complete lie! Right on the back of the Mario Kart box is the logo stating that it's Broadband Compatible. I don't know why those reviewers chose to say that nonsense. Using Warp Pipe (www.warppipe.com), this game works almost flawlessly with the adapter. Some other games that you can use online and with Warp Pipe are: If you have a home network and a computer, this is an excellent upgrade for your Gamecube. Trust me. |
