Shopping for new game consoles can be hard. You have to put into factor the price, selection of games, and the future of the console. Don't get me wrong... the GameCube is appealing due to its low price over the Xbox and Playstation 2, but for game selection wise and value, its in dead last.

Ever since the Nintendo 64, Nintendo hasn't been listening to its fans. A once...

Don't you get sick of reviews that only show one side of the story? Or simply lie to you to make a product look better?
Here are some real important facts about gamecube:

1. It's not faster than Xbox and it's not slower than PS2. It's something in between.

2. It's compact size is definatelly a plus if you don't have space in your house or decide to travel with GC alot. I don't see how a bigger size makes a system so much worse. I put my system in one place, and move it once a month at most.

3. Games are more "childish" for a GC, however, it doesn't mean -bad games. Nintendo has always been known for cutting down violence in the games (Mortal Kombat etc.) Most GC games are rated from "Everyone(6+)" to "Teen (13+)" with a few exceptions.

4. You can't help but to notice how well Nintendo games are made though. Quality games is what Nintendo is about. It's very rare that there are "bugs" in games, especially first party games.

5. Even though many games really do leave an impression that they are made for young audience, they still can be incredibly fun to play even for grown-ups.

6. Attention has been brought to Nintendo's small dvd disks. Are those better or worse? Well, if taking consumer side, they are worse. Even though some like GC's original disc size, it still is a downside. Since GC games use pretty much the same DVD cases as Xbox and PS2, the advatnage of the game taking less space is lost right away. Just like with N64, Nintendo again tries to stop "game piracy". The ending result? almost 2 times smaller DVD that is probably well protected (atleast for now), that contains 3 times less information. If PS2 And Xbox DVDs are appx. 4.5 gigabytes, Gamecube contains appx 1.5 gigabytes of space. Will Nintendo have a problem with lack of DVD space? Probably. The game "SSX Tricky" that was ported from PS2 to Xbox and GC doesn't contain additional DVD content on Gamecube due to the lack of space.

7. Gamecube doesn't have HDD disc and its modem only will support 56K Dialup (Atleast that's the info we know today). Xbox and PS2 will support DSL and 56K dialup once online networks are operational.

8. Unlike PS2 and Xbox, Gamecube doesn't support DVD movies or CDs playback. Even though some say that they already have DVD player and stereo system and they are just looking for a "gaming machine". But how many kids actually have their own DVD player in the room?

9. Well, it all comes down to price. Currently, Gamecube is appx. 25% cheaper than PS2 or Xbox. And on average GC accessories cost less than PS2's or Xbox's.

10. And games... PS2 still probably has the best games on the market, not to mention alot more of them. Yet the system is getting old, and it often starts to lose the battle of "Best graphics" to GC or Xbox.
It's hard to predict where Xbox is going though, some think it will be "an entertainment center" soon, others send it straight to "Dumpsville". Even though Xbox has great hardware, it does very little to save the system so far. Microsoft losing money on each system, and overall system sells relatively poorly.
Gamecube, also having lots of bad games, just like any other gaming system. But also has many very high quality games that can be considered "instant classics" such as (Sup.Smash Bros., Pikmin, Monkey Ball, Resident Evil etc...).

5.0 out of 5 stars Why i choose the GameCube..., February 4, 2002
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
Becuase I always liked Nintendo systems and games. They have a very good reputation when it comes to quality. The GameCube system is cheaper, smaller, and cooler looking than the other systems, yet it's still as powerful when it comes to hardware and graphics. The controller is the best ever created as far as i know (a million times better than the Xbox controller). The exclusive Nintendo games are numerous and they all look awesome (trust me i've surfed the web for many hours). There are great ones out now like: Super Smash Brothers Melee, Pikmin, Star Wars: Rogue Leader, Super Monkey Ball, NBA Courtside, etc. A few to look out for in the future: Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Star Fox: Dinosaur Planet, Legend of Zelda, Eternal Darkness: Sanitys Requiem, Animal Forest+, Soccer Slam, Bomberman Generations, Banjo-Kazooie 3, Kameo: Elements of Power , Perfect Dark 2, Mario Kart, all the past Resident Evil games (completely re-done with unbelievable new graphics) and the future Resident Evil games. And those were all exclusive to Nintendo's GameCube, they won't be coming out for ANY other system. These were the main reason i choose the GameCube over the other system, not to mention the fact that it's at least 100 bucks cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality over quantity, April 24, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
Why is it that the Gamecube is like that little shy guy who always got picked on at school? There are so much hostility towards this system, and almost all of it is from people who complain about the "lack of games" or the fact that it is a "kid's system". These are people who probably never played a Gamecube in their life.

This is an excellent system, and I will list the reasons why:

1. Price. I have a DVD player, and most video game console DVD players are mediocre at best (the PS2 one is really bad). This system is very affordable, at under [money], and great value.

2. Games. Though there are not too many now, just wait. Every Nintendo system had a slow start, most went on to greatness (even the N64, which I like). While the Xbox and PS2 systems have over 200, only a few of them are actually good. Quality over Quantity.

3. The controller. A lot of people don't like the gamecube controller, but I think it is the best one available. It is easy to move, easy to understand, and easy to grasp the first time playing. The Xbox controller is the size of a Whopper and just as difficult to play with. The PS2 is basically the PS1 controller, but it feels cheaper.

4. Popular Nintendo titles. You can never get enough Mario, Zelda, Starfox, and Donkey Kong. All of the popular Nintendo characters will get the 128-bit treatment. And with Metroid, Mario Kart, others on their way, you cannot say that there will be no good games.

5. Squaresoft. It ha recently been revealed that the bad blood between Squaresoft, makes of the Final Fantasy series and other fantastic RPGs, and Nintendo is over. There will be Squaresoft games in the future of Gamecube, as well as Gameboy Advance. Perhaps the lack of RPGs is partly responsible for the failure of the N64.

5. The fact that the games on Xbox and Gamecube look exactly the same. I have played games for both systems, and have noticed no difference in terms of graphics and sound. In terms of gameplay, Gamecube is much better. Games I have tried on both are Tony Hawk, 007 Agent Under Fire and some snowboarding game I forgot the title.

6. Size. While the Xbox is bigger than my VCR, and the PS2's construction leaves something to be desired, the Gamecube is attractive, small, compact, solidly constructed, and easy to install. The game discs themselves are very small, but can hold just as much data as full size CDs.

7. Not just a Kid's system. I am 22 years old, and I find that the Gamecube games are just as good for adults as they ae for kids. Simple reason: They are fun. If all you look for in a game is blood, gore, breakneck action, or the ability to shoot everything in sight, than perhaps the gamecube is not for you. But if you like fun games that keep you involved, the Gamecube is the best. I don't have time these days for long RPGs or super-long shooters. At the end of the day, I got for Mario and Donkey Kong.

But having said all of this, there are a few flaws. These small game discs are easily scratched, meaning that a little damage can go a long way. As well, I am a bit annoyed with the fact that they have pushed back Starfox and Zelda, AGAIN. But good things come to those that wait, so I can wait. Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives on the Gamecube. If you wish to be snotty and keep slagging off the Gamecube, fine, it just leaves more fun for the rest of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good system to purchase....., July 1, 2002
By
Vincent Vejar (Spring Valley, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
I have a PS2, and my older brother bought the XBOX. We purchased both last year. We bought for our little brother the GAMECUBE, for the purpose of letting him play the kiddy games that are available for nintendo. I mean NINTENDO excells int that right? We were very surprised at some of the titles, and the gameplay on GAMECUBE. Graphics are great, better than my PS2, and comparible to Xbox. In the end if there was a system we should have purchased it should have been the GAMECUBE. How many games do you really want to BUY? I purchase Sports games, and entertaining games! GAMECUBE doesn't have as many titles, but the Titles I chose have been GREAT! And GAMECUBE Has it - FUN. We are waiting for ZELDA, METROID, And the WRESTLING GAMES ARE AWESOME, PLUS MARIO! C'mon, MARIO STILL RULES! We are PS2 fans, and The CUBE gets all our attention(For Now). It's worth the price, and DVD - CD player control is coming soon! Plus we can play our ADVANCE GAMES ON IT! The controllers need improvement, but like any other contoroller you get used to it. AND INCASE YOU WERE WONDERING, XBOX is a GREAT SYSTEM, but NEEDS MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS (Overheats, and it stop working for a time, loud but, nothing out of the ordinary, I perfer my P.C. Glad it's my older Brothers) It collects dust. If there is a starter system that offers you the most for your buck, and the most entertainment, I deffinately recommened the GAMECUBE. But beware - there will always be something coming out in the future that will be bigger and better! But I would have to say GAMECUBE though not the popular choice is the BEST OUT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best system from the greatest video game console franchise, July 12, 2002
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
Nintendo has been around since the 80's when they first released Nintendo and they haven't slowed down yet. Released the SuperNES, Gameboy, Virtual Boy, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance and now the Nintendo Gamecube I must say that Nintendo will continue to bring fun filling entertianment. I have always loved Nintendo since I bought my first system ever the Super Nintendo. Unfortunately I passed on the N64 because of the controller and the use of cartiridges which made the graphics look blocky. I was a bit skecptical about buying the Nintendo Gamecube because of the unfortunate failure of the Nintendo 64 but I gave it a shot. I was amazed. Gamecube graphics are smashing, the controller fits perfectly into your hands and load times are hardly noticeably. Great for multiplayer also. One bad thing is the memory card but you could always buy another for 15 dollars. This system is a must have. And this bundle starts you off perfectly with all the supplies you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 Stars If Possible..., June 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
PROS:
- best 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Party Support to make accessories and games (a must for gamers)
- for Nintendo quality is over quantity... and that's a good thing (look when buying something from Nintendo it has its Seal of Quality)
- longest gaming history for experience in the next-gen war
- meant for a GAMING CONSOLE so don't expect it to play DVDs, CDs, etc. (that's a good thing... Xbox is a mini-comp practically)
- controller best since PS2's dualshock (don't get me started on how bad Xbox's controller is)
- perfect design and lightness of the console
A TON MORE but got lazy of writing the infinite PROS
CONS:
- doesn't include extras like CD player, DVD player, CD ripper, etc. just buy a DVD/CD player for ($)... i mean you spend ($) on a stupid remote for the Xbox and PS2 for DVD playback!
- may be considered kiddie (yea right Xbox/PS2 fanboys)...(Rogue Leader, RE, Eternal Darkness, etc.) sound kiddie to you? I'm 25 and I luv the cube!
Overall: GET A NINTENDO GC!... If not get a PS2, stay away from the Xbox! (i heard too many stories of errors occuring, loud noises while using the Xbox, Nuclear Meltdowns (no cooling system in an Xbox), weak games, LOUSY controller, etc.)
Happy Gaming!

5.0 out of 5 stars why its the best....., August 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
first off i would like to say why it is better then the xbox. dont get me wrong. the xbox is a great system. however microsoft has stated that they expect to lose 2 billion dollars the the 1st 2 years this system is around. thats a lot of money. and let me add that with losses like this microsoft wont make money on the xbox. there is also the fact that the xbox has sold less then the gamecube. you might be thinking that sales dont matter but listen to this.....the xbox hasnt sold even 250,000 units in japan. guess who makes the best video games....the japanese.....guess what coutry doesnt like the xbox.....japan....guess who wont be making games for the xbox...japan. in the end this will deplete the sources of microsoft and i believe that microsoft will be forced to discontinue its run to become champion of the industry, this means that u will be stuck with a system and games that will no longer have any use.

as for the ps2. lets just say that if u dont know what an rpg is, then u shoudnt get 1. thats the main reason u would want to buy 1. the only two other good games(when i say good i mean undesputedly good) are metal gear solid 2 and gt3. and if u dont know what those are, i would not get it. gta3 can be played on pc. not to mention the sales of ps2's are due to consumers using it as a dvd player.(not smart) most experts would agree that if u want a dvd player that bad. pay an extra 50 bucks and get a real one. (especially dont buy an xbox for this reason, because to use the dvd player costs an extra 30 bucks)

so why buy a gamecube......every1 loves nintendo. who doesnt love mario, zelda, mario kart, donkey kong, metroid, and star fox?? some dont, and this may not be the system for u. the i have read a few of these other reviews and many are misleading. some say that gamecube isnt going online. it is. it is compatible with a 56k modem as well as broadband. some say the discs hold less memory, even though this is true, there are already games that have 2 discs for the system and those games are no more expensive then any others. most games on xbox and ps2 dont use up all the space on the discs by the way. a majority of them can be put on the gamecube disc with no problem.

as for the games being for kids......most of the games for gamecube, including mario are too difficult for children to play. complex puzzles and quick game play arent ideal for children who are still not as coordinated as adults and teenagers. it might sound lame but it is true. my lil sister cant play most of the games i have for my gc. and there are also your more "mature" games like resident evil, eternal darkness, die hard, and more down the road. i think when u will compare awsome mature games on ps2 and xbox to the 1's on gamecube, that in the near future, there wont be much of a difference in their numbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo makes an improvement over the N64!, September 5, 2002
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
I have been a Nintendo and video game fan for nearly 25 years! Since I was a small child I have been fascinated with toys and video games. One of the pioneers of video gaming has been Nintendo of America which has been producing high quality video games for over twenty years! I have owned every console of theirs from the beginning. Now, back in 1996, Nintendo put out a high-quality console named the Nintendo 64, which produced high-quality video gaming with quick load times, the problem, however, was the aging cartridge format, which was looked upon as too old for the gaming industry as compared to the then new Compact Disk video game systems put out by Sega and Sony. (Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation.) The other problem with Nintendo 64 was that cartidges were too expensive and game publishers went with cheaper disks for the systems by Sega and Sony, (I.E. SquareSoft's Final Fantasy series) so Nintendo soon lost the console wars to Sony. However, their handheld Gameboy system kept the company as the leader of the handheld market, and in 2001, Nintendo finally abandoned the cartridge format to a small, CD based system with faster loading times, and a newer comfortable controller that is by far the most comfortable controller on the market. Now, the Gamecube is still less than a year old, and the choices amoung gamers is still light at best. However, with must have titles such as Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and the awesome, Resident Evil series, all exclusives to the Gamecube, Nintendo has finally learned the mistakes of the Nintendo 64 and has become a leader of the video game console industry, and if you're an owner of the amazing Gameboy Advanced as I am, there are several games that will allow players to connect your GBA to the Gamecube with the assistance of a small cable available in stores. Also, the best news is that Squaresoft, the publisher of the Final Fantasy series is coming back to Nintendo on both the Gameboy Advanced and the Gamecube, which means that Sony's lock on video game rights is slowing disappearing! Get a Gamecube and you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent console, great games with more to come, August 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
As a lot of people have said so far, the choice of games avaliable for a console will determine it's success. When I decided to buy the GameCube, it was primarily due to Nintendo's reputation for cranking out great, fun games. And so far, I havn't been dissapointed. This console has some of the best games avaliable anywhere, including Super Smash Brothers Melee (THE ultimate party game), Rouge Leader (excellent flying game, great graphics), and Eternal Darkness (anyone who still thinks of Nintendo as a platform full of kiddie games obviously hasn't tried playing Eternal Darkness.... *shudder*).... the list goes on and on.

All in all, if you like fun, well made games that will keep you hooked for days on end, get the GameCube, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gamecube, Xbox, or Playstation 2?, July 29, 2003
By
This review is from: GameCube Jet Black Starter Pack (Video Game)
I own a Gamecube but I can still comment on the Xbox and Playstation 2. Gamecube has exclusive titles that are very good (Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Resident Evil, Mario, Zelda.) The DVD/CD is on the down side, but problems do exist with the PS2's DVD, and you have to buy a remote for the Xbox. I love the GCN controller except for it's lack of buttons. The connectivity with the Game Boy Advance is a plus. Gamecube drops in the online category, but paying for a monthly service really doesn't appeal to me. The Gamecube has a fair release forecast with Rogue Squadron III, Pikmin 2, Mario Kart, Final Fantasy CC, and Metroid 2. My second console choice would be the Xbox. The Controller-S is a big improvement from the original controller. The Xbox controller is best in my opinion. DVD capabilities add to the Xbox's power, and there is no need for memory cards because of it's built in hard drive. The Xbox dominates the online world with Xbox Live. Xbox has a strong line-up of games (Halo, Metal Gear Solid, ummmm...oh yea Splinter Cell), and a good selection of upcoming games (Halo 2, Perfect Dark, Splinter Cell 2). In last but fairly close is the Playstation 2. The ability to play the hundreds of PS One games is awesome and the DVD function is okay. The PS2 is the least powerful machine but it still performs up to par with the GCN and XBOX. Online play is standard with good games (Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto). I'm sure Sony will keep Final Fantasy and GTA alive especially with the upcoming release of the Playstation Portable. My advice: Don't buy a Playstation 2 just yet. Sony is releasing a PSX, which is an advanced PS2. The PSX doesn't have DVD problems and it can record your favorite television shows on it's 120GB hard drive. First, buy a Gamecube. Then an Xbox, and then a PSX. Thank You!
