4.0 out of 5 stars gameshark 2
The gameshark 2 is a good product overall. I like that it has so many games for ps2 but I still had to add some of my games manually. This is the only drawback to this product. When you type in codes manually, it takes a long time. I did a few games and it took me at least a couple of hours. Despite this drawback, I am satisfied with my purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars GAMESHARK HAS FALLEN OFF WITH THEIR PRODUCTS, May 13, 2006
This review is from: GameShark 2 (CD-ROM)
For some odd reason I bought this version of Gameshark hoping it would be a pretty good cheat device, since I have broadband to keep it updated. It also states you can use a usb memory stick/storage device to update your codes.

I CANNOT GET EITHER TO WORK.

Several other people in the GS.com Forums have had the same problems... They try to log on to update codes via broadband and it connects maybe twice out of hundreds of attempts.

Manually entering codes on the newer versions of Gameshark is a pain in the @$$... it's nothing like the older versions. Also, a lot of the self entered codes will not be recognized by the game and therefore they will not work, so you waste time putting in the codes manually, and nothing happens when you load the game.

I have no clue why they'd market this junk... If they would have left their old configuration alone this would probably be a decent product, unfortunately, they didn't and it's not.

Go buy yourself an ARMAX EVO... At least it works 90% of the time, whereas Gameshark works about 20% of the time.

DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU INTEND ONLY ON USING THE PRELOADED CODES, UPDATING THIS PRODUCT IS ALMOST IMPOSIBLE !

1.0 out of 5 stars Game shark for the PS 2 is a waste, March 4, 2007

Do not buy this product. It has blue surface and your PS 2 will probably have problems reading it and give you a "disk error." I don't know why they did this. Also, the one I purchased scratched very easily compounding my problems. Unfortuntely, is was too late to take it back to the vendor. I am going to try code breaker. It seems a much better product. The orignial game shark for the ps 1 that attached to the console was a far better product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utterly worthless!, January 23, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

The Gameshark 2 is a terrible product. Half of the time the PS2 doesn't even recognize it as a NTSC disc. If you do manage to get it to boot up, you're still not out of the woods. If you try reading saves off of the CD, it will lock up. The supplied codes don't even work for some of the games! Adding new codes is a pain, the USB interface sometimes locks it up as well! The support site where you find new codes is worthless, as there are several game that have no codes. Buy a codebreaker, or an AR MAX instead!

i baught this gameshark and it will not load 90% of the time on an older ps2 system, now i don't know if it will work on the slim ones. but as far as the older fat versions don't waste your money on it. get the older version gameshark with that system.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Outdated (For an Older System, No Less), May 15, 2008

My relatively new PS2 had a little trouble reading the disc (may be due to it being a CD Rom, though it reads Fighter Maker 2 just fine). The only other issue is that there aren't really any new codes. what you see is what you get, and that's all they have on the site. Not bad, not great. Meh.

2.0 out of 5 stars If it doesn't work, you might just need to clean your PS2, September 9, 2009

Issue 1) I put the GS2 in my PS2 and it couldn't read it. After looking up info online, I saw that GameShark suggests cleaning your PS2 disc laser (they suggested it very subtly, as if they weren't really suggesting it). Nevertheless, every other game I've ever had in there works, so this is one touchy SOB. I cleaned the PS2 laser (note: doing so will void any warranties, and could mess up your PS2, so look up how to do it and be careful).

Also, make sure the disk is perfect, no scratches or smudges (for this reason I wouldn't even think of buying a used one).

Anyway, now it works!

Issue 2) I wanted to add codes I found online. Bad news is, there are something like 100 versions of GameShark2's, and they all use different codes. The codes I added didn't work. So using it for anything not already on it is sketchy.

Issue 3) It comes with virtually no documentation (you have to go online to find it). And there is a glitch with adding multiple line codes (go online and they will tell you all the problems with this thing).

The preloaded cheats did work. And there are preloaded cheats for a huge list of games. So it's not completely worthless, but there are too many problems with it to get anything more than 2 stars.

Use to be back in the day you could pop in some cheat codes and you were good to go, what was even better was that people would dink around and find new codes by mistake and share them. It was nice, you had a wide variety for any game, you just copy the number and be set. Now you cant enter in numbers, You HAVE to download cheats, and only cheats that gameshark deems worthy to have. Not only that, but this item should provide the buyer with a pendrive. What do you get instead? a disk. the rest is up to you. Im sick of great companies that use to do things perfectly getting in that "lets renovate" mood. Seriously if you hit a bullseye why would you take out the dart and try again? Get it right, and improove and add, not change.

Buy an older version... if you can find it, from back when the people who ran this company knew what they were doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars LET ME TEACH YOU HOW TO USE THE PS2 GAMESHARK, March 30, 2010

Royal Blue (Rochester Hills, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews

LET ME TEACH YOU HOW TO USE THE PS2 GAMESHARK.

When you want to download new codes for your PS2 Gameshark, you have to go to their website: [...].

MOST IMPORTANT PART, use Internet Explorer as your web browser; it won't work properly using Mozilla; not too sure about other browsers, either.

Go to their website, find the page for codes for whatever game it is you want,

For example,

-> Playstation 2
-> Codes
-> Cheat Codes for Playstation 2
-> A (or whatever letter the title of the game you're looking for)
-> Ar Tonelico
-> Click on the symbol labeled "Click Here" for GameShark Downloadable Cheat File

When you download that file, make sure you're downloading it using Internet Explorer; other browsers don't download the file properly.

Put that file on a USB drive.

Connect your USB Drive to one of the USB drives in your PS2.

Turn on your PS2, and load up the Gameshark 2 software.

The software should automatically recognize the data on your USB drive, and ask whether you want to download that data or not; of course, select "Yes," and it'll save it to your PS2 memory card (you're going to need about 2600MB of free space).

You'll find your downloaded codes in the cheat menu.

Select the game title, select the codes, and you're good to go!

Have fun playing GOD!...in a good way, of course!

...

Of course, if the codes you want are already on the disc itself, you won't need to download any codes...
