Nintendo's Game Boy debuted in the late '80s and has since sold over 60 million units worldwide, far outpacing other hand-held game systems. With a catalog of over 1,000 games and dozens of add-on peripherals, Game Boy is a monster of a hand-held game system, and a remarkably affordable one at that. Early March 1998 brought the release of the Game Boy Color system, an upgraded version of the original. It is equipped with an 8-bit CPU, doubling the original Game Boy's computing power. The small LCD screen can display up to 56 colors simultaneously (out of a 32,000-color palette), delivered via boosted video processing memory that provides remarkably sharp and vibrant graphics.
The hundreds of available games vary from tremendously compelling to instantly forgettable. Quality or not, the entire library of games designed for the original system is playable on Game Boy Color, but buyers should note that not all Game Boy Color games will work on the original Game Boy system.
The Game Boy Color system is available in an exotic array of colors and special editions. Accessories and add-on peripherals abound, enhancing the playing experience with vibrating feedback to in-game bumps and crashes, extra battery power, and even a clever camera package that allows players to capture, tweak, and print images.

Game Boy Color is great, but don't get this color,

I love Game Boy Color just as much as anyone else who owns it. It's easy to carry around, has great, high quality games, a sharper screen, and good use of color. I also own a Neo Geo Pocket, and even though it is a better system, it needs two different kinds of batteries, and all the games get old really fast. This system only needs two AA batteries, and they last a good amount of time. The only bad thing about this system is this particular color. I like the color red, and I jumped at the opportunity to get this Berry Red system. But when I brought it places, I kept getting made fun of, because the system actually turned out to be a perfect shade of pink instead. I would definetly buy this system, just not in this color.

Tremendously better than regular Game Boy.,
By Ed Mazur III (Avon, CT United States) - See all my reviews

The Game Boy Color is a must have for any true fan! Not only are games now in color but the images are sharper and the sound has improved. I would suggest purchasing a different color console though if you are a male. Although the title of it says "Berry", it is more like a hot pink. It can be a bit awkward with such an unusual color for a boy to have but the features of the console itself far outweigh that detail. The only thing that I could find was missing from the Game Boy Color was a contrast adjustment. Unlike the traditional Game Boy, you are now unable to adjust the darkness/lightness of the screen. I sometimes find myself struggling to view the contents of the screen but it isn't that much of a problem. I definetly suggest that you buy the Game Boy Color, you won't regret it!
