The Power of the Pocket,

This review is from: GameBoy Pocket - Green (Game Cartridge)
Relatively speaking, the Game Boy Pocket is an extremely old handheld system. It's outdated and quite ancient. However, when I owned a Game Boy Pocket (actually, I lost mine just a little over two weeks ago), I had a great deal of amusement with it. Why? Simply because I felt that regardless of the lack of color or high-tech gadgets that many systems had nowadays, my trusty Game Boy Pocket was still "fun". In fact, I hear the new Nintendo DS has no Game Boy functionality - only a Game Boy Advance port (which I own not). That's another reason why I may not get that particular system.
The Game Boy Pocket is small. It's very small. Yet, this does not detract from the functionality. Another plus is that this system has a CONTRAST SLIDER -- unlike the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, you can alter the brightness or darkness of the screen -- perfect for when you're trying to see something that's just too bright to see (fans of the Pokemon series will remember the Fuchsia City Gym's infamous invisible walls, for example). The contrast slider and its black and white (not green and white like that of the Game Boy) screen alone warranted a buy for me back in the day. I admit that now, many people believe the Game Boy Pocket seems to be obsolete. That's absurd. Those who wish to save money can get one and still have fun. Those who wish to put in a bit more can have the Game Boy Color (which unfortunately I still do not own, but realize the fun of). Those who want to "blow off", if you will, too much money -- can get some expensive, fancy system. If you're a parent, though, don't get your kids a Game Boy Pocket. Tantrums will explode all over the place.

Something for the New,

I got this some time ago, and I suppose I was thrilled with it since it was my first handheld, and it didn't seem a waste of time. You can change the color to change the darkness and lighting. It helps. But after a few years and I got the new generation handhelds: GBC and GBA, the fun wore off. Whenever I stared at the dull screen and I didn't have as much fun as I did playing the GBA. The induced graphics on the GBA were pretty much superior. But this system is great for new gamers who just want to try the handhelds. The games are compatible with the other GB generation systems. I recommend this to gamers who would like to have a little something of the past.

Pretty Cool,

I think game-boy pocket is a very great toy. It has very good quallity. I have dropped it on the floor 100,000 times and it never broke. The only problem is that is takes AAA battries and it does not take long to use up the battery. I have a solution for that problem. If you have an adapter plug it into the wall. It's great for travel. And has lots of good games. Sure there is a game-boy color but there's 1 thing better with b&w. You dont have to be in the right amount of light to see it. Great gift lots of fun. Addictive. I would recommend it for any age.

The gameboy pocket may not have color like other handhelds, but it rules for anyone on a limited budget, and who doesn't want a bulky original gameboy(which also rules for its own reasons). A excelent game for this is Kirby's pinball land.

Very Good System,

I bought this system last summer and it works really well. No pieces are missing or anything and the batteries aren't used up too fast. The system generally works very nicely and is nice and small. It also came quickly in the mail.

This is the perfect gameboy to play those old school games like Super Mario, Worio, and Kirby. Some of those games just aren't meant to be in color. You can play thousands of fun games on this and since it is older the games are cheaper like $5. These games are what all the new games are based on. Graphics and other high tech stuff doesn't matter because you can still have a blast without them.

I absolutely love my Game Boy Pocket! Sure its a bit old and not quite as flashy as the newer consoles but is still a great gaming system. I just bought a brand new one of these for 25.00 (you can get them for 10.00 used) I bought this because I was going on a long road trip to South Dakota from Wisconsin, and let me say I was amazed at what I got. I wasn't expecting too much out of this system. I have already owned a GB Micro and found it was the biggest waste of money. So i wasn't excpecting this system to be great but i was wrong. This sytem in my opinion is the best GB out there right now. I found I love playing the classic games and old nintendo favorites such as pokemon and Dr. Mario. I was also expecting a blurred image like on every other game boy i have ever played but it was surprisingly clear nothing like the GBC or GB Micro. True it is in black and white but it has a contrast dial to adjust lating and has a sharp crystal clear display. So if you are someone looking to have a good time for a cheap price the Game Boy pocket is for you. if you are someone who is into all the new technology and can afford wasting money on terribly made games go for the new stuff. Overall great little system I am so glad I got mine when i did!!!!

Best Game Boy out there!,

The Game Boy pocket is the best Game Boy system out there! It is small, light, and has a huge variety of games. It is very fun to use when on long trips or just at home if you have free time. The reason I value you this game Boy over all others is it has loads of classic games that I love as well as newer ones, it may not be in color but it has the sharpest most crisp image on any Game Boy console up to date, It also features a contrast button to set the screen brightness to your liking. (Which all other Game Boys lack). Even if you are not a hardcore gamer it will bring you a bit if fun. if you have been into gaming for years thiswill bring back a piece of Nintendo's glory days. And you can't beat the price! Get a Game Boy Pocket today!!!

Game Boy Pocket,

The Game Boy pocket is my absolute favorite Game Boy system. I love the 400+ games for it, ecspecially the great nintendo classics like Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby..... and the list keeps on going. The reason this is my favorite Game Boy is because it is small (fits virtually anywhere), durable (mine has undergone drops and being left outside all night and still working perfect afterward), and just something about the way it look. This system also runs off 2 "AAA" batteries and has an amazingly long battery life. This system in my opinion is better than the Game Boy color because it is smaller and has a contrast dial to adjust the screen brightness wich the GBC lacks. I even enjoy this system more than my GBA SP. I don't get all that new technology stuff on the newer Game Boys. I am not a hardcore gamer but I do enjoy playing this in the car or sometimes at home when I have nothing to do. But one of the biggest reasons I value this system over my other GBA is because the game quality. Games were made good then. In my opinion games all went down hill the generation right after this system. Back then games were good clean fun, simple as the were, but fun. Now we have games like Grand theft Auto with mindless killing in them. Anyway, Overall great little system. If you are a new gamer or just someone looking for a bit of fun you should definately get one of these. And now being obsolete you can pick them up very cheap. you can't go wrong with the Nintendo game Boy Pocket!

I am not sure what makes the Gameboy Pocket so appealing. The blurry, laughable graphics? THe fact that a cellphone has better graphics? It's superugly design? Well, I am not sure, but the Gameboy pocket has something about it. I will just say though that it's really cool to play black and white Space invaders and Pokemon, almost as much as playing GTA on the Go (GBA version, only a goof would skip VCS or LCS, or a stupid parent).
I can't explain it, but this was my first gameboy. While it may be SEVERLY outdated, it's the system that really helped the Gameboy line last almost a decade alone without a new release (well this was released, im talking aout this and the original Gameboy). With it's affordable price of only fifty bucks, it shows how Nintendo is so damn good at making portable gaming systems. With that price, along with the huge game library, I can't help but think why Sega even bothered. The Nomad and Game Gear were fine, but it showed that they should not have even tried. Anyway, I still would pick it up, it's a classic. You may not be like me, but this is somebody that picked up a fourty dollar Game And Watch game. |
