From School Library Journal
Grade 6-10-- A book that tries too hard to do too much and resorts to cliches rather than characterization. Scott overhears a terrorist plot late one night while brooding in a deserted football stadium, and he is drawn into a deadly search that leads him from a secure life to the Navajo reservation and a reconciliation with Jonah Pike, his long-lost father, who heads an antiterrorist organization. Along the eventful way, Scott is beset by a terrorist with a chip on her shoulder and is aided by a Navajo F.B.I. agent and his English teacher. YA readers will enjoy the well-written action scenes but may find chapters, told from the vantage of alternate characters, contrived and confusing. Scott's pivotal decision to give up the rigors of football for a career with his dad as an antiterrorist is jarring. The book has exciting moments, but lacks full characterization and a strong voice. --Doris A. Fong, Benson Polytechnic High School, Portland, OR
