3.0 out of 5 stars Better than some of her others!, July 18, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Gamemaster (Mass Market Paperback)
Stephanie James's novels are not as good as her later works as Jayne Ann Krentz-- perhaps I just don't remember the 80's, many of her books were written before I was born, but they are quite improbable-- but fun, nonetheless. This book was better than some of her others. The back reads:
Shelley Banning was an enterprising accountant determined to acquire aid for one of her financially ailing clients. Her first task was to secure a loan from Joel Cassidy, ruler of a successful video-game empire. But Joel was a masterful player. He challenged Shelley word for word, kiss for kiss, until her supple body ached with longing. Joel's love bewitched her senses; his caress engaged her in a frenzied love match. But how could Shelley hope to win when Joel arrogantly informed her he was playing by his own rules?

This synopsis is not precisely accurate on all points, but close enough not to matter. Get this one from your library!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tries a little too hard, but good anyway, October 28, 2007
This review is from: Gamemaster (Mass Market Paperback)
Shelley Banning, accountant, meet Joel Cassidy, video-game entrepreneur, when she shows up to ask him to hold off collecting on a $100,000 debt from one of her clients. She tries to come across as a no-nonsense, up to date businesswoman and he comes across as a nonconforming game-playing mechanic.

Though she tries to keep things businesslike they are soon involved and then comes the twist. The debt Joel is holding off on collecting is secured by property that is now much more valuable than they all thought, and Shelley gets a mysterious phone call warning her. Who is playing games here?

A little too much telling rather than showing but good early work.
