5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Female Gangsta Album Ever!, April 22, 2004
By
S. P. Cooper (Upper Marlboro, MD USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Gamers (Audio CD)
I first bought this album in '97 based on the artist's name. I thought "Conscious Daughters" would lead me to some Afro-centric, socially uplifting music - a la Common Sense, Poor Righteous Teachers. I couldn't have been more wrong! And more satisfied!

I popped the disc in my car stereo and got an unexpected treat. These women were rapping about serious issues, but from the street side. And rapping most competently too! Most every song on the album still stands the test of time, which can't be said for most rap.

The real standout tracks are:

Strikin' - The ladies tell you how they roll.

Gamers - Blueprint for female macks

All Caught Up - Chillingly graphic story of how an hiv infected woman takes her revenge against every man that she can. Truly, Hell hath no fury like an hiv infected woman...

Widow - The Gripping story of how the "wife" of a major drug dealer continues the family business and settles the score with those who betrayed her man.

I recently replaced my original copy that got loaned out and never came back. It was hard to find, so if you can get it, add this gem to your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album!!! 5 stars!, October 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gamers (Audio CD)
This is one of my most favorite rap albums! The ladies, or should I say 'daughters' can rap very well. I bought the clean version of Gamers on CD in 1996 and fell in love with it. I listened to it so many times. my favorite songs are "She's so Tight," "It Don't Stop," "So Good," and "Come smooth, Come rude" They are strong women holding their own and they inspire others to go for their's and to keep it real. don't hesitate to get this album! However, the explicit version is extremely explicit, so I recommend the clean version for those who don't wanna hear a bunch of cuss words and vulgar language. These ladies really do give positive messages in most of their songs! give this one a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, These girls got game!, November 10, 2005
This review is from: Gamers (Audio CD)
In the rap music industry, there's very few female artists in this game. The conscious daughters are the first female rap group from the West Coast (the Bay Area). These ladies are just raw and as just intense as some of the artists from the West Coast. Standout tracks in this album are "She's so tight", "Female Voclaism", and "Widow". With nothing restricted, this album is a gem. Unforunately, they didn't get the fame they deserved and they seem to disappear which seems kind of sad because they have so much talent and skill. None the less, these ladies made history for being the first female rap group to come out. Get yourself a copy, you won't be dissappointed!
