This is a very nice chess set at this price. It is relatively heavy and it is rugged. It is a large board with easy to identify pieces and makes an excellent first set for anyone serious about chess. I purchased one of these as a Christmas present for a youngster and was very pleased.

As the other reviewers have mentioned, the board is gorgeous and well made, but the pieces are of a low quality and are not weighted. So I recommend you buy a nice mini rosewood staunton weighted set as I did for this board-- rosewoood and boxwood chess pieces compliment the board beautifully! I agree with the previous reviewer that the board is nice but the chess pieces are made of a very light weight wood and are not that well carved. They are pretty cheap and poor quality pieces. I think at this price point, the pieces should be better quality.

Although delivery seemed to take a long time, it was within the estimated timeframe given and the seller made extra efforts to make us happy about the purchase although it was not necessary.
