Kaye, author of Games for Reading ( LJ 6/1/84) and Games for Math ( LJ 3/1/88), here profiles 85 learning games which can be played in ten minutes or less with children between the ages of five and ten. She includes games for improving vocabulary, math, handwriting, phonics, and science, all of which require material no more complex than cards, dice, or pennies. Kaye is a master at turning learning tasks into easy games that will have children clamoring for more. Her appendix includes a list of important words kids should know, great books for reading aloud, and notes for teachers. This great resource for parents and teachers is recommended for public as well as school li braries.
