Games to Play With Babies,
By Julie Bitter (Springfield, Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Games to Play With Babies (Paperback)
Finally, a book for new or "experienced" parents with no, little, or high imaginations! Being a parent is the most importaant job anyone can have, and this book helps make it even more rewarding! I discovered this hidden treasure while browsing through Amazon's book selections, and I thought that it may make a wonderful addition to my parenting book collection. It is completely interactive. The parent is blessed with a huge selection of quick and educationally profitable activities for newborns to one year-olds. Songs, finger games, poems, daily bedtime or bathtime rituals and other activities are demonstrated and what benefit it gives you child is written at the bottom of the page: language skills, balance, and bonding just to name a few. A must-have for parents of infants!

Finally, a WELL-ORGANIZED idea book!,
By
This review is from: Games to Play with Babies - 3rd Edition (Paperback)
Just as a I said: Finally, a well-organized idea book! I can look up activities to carry out in my classroom by category (Bath and Dressing Games, Going to Sleep Games, etc.); by age (0-3, 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12 months); AND by theme (just for fun, colors, etc.). The activities are simple and clearly described in one page each. But they are not all commonsense ideas, or I wouldn't like this book, and neither would any other experienced under-threes teacher :p. I HIGHLY recommend this book to under-threes teachers and to new parents.

Great for new parents,
By Kari Koffman (Charlevoix, MI) - See all my reviews

This book was bought due to my concern with, "What do I do with this baby, now that I've got her home?" I've taught fifth graders for many years, but didn't quite know how to begin to "educate" my baby. This book gave me some very quick, easy and simple ideas of games to play to help my child learn. It is also broke down into ages (ie. 0-3 months, 12-18 months, etc.) I definately recommend this book to parents that want to begin the learning process in a fun manner early on.

Games,
By
This review is from: Games to Play With Babies (Paperback)
Though the games are very simple, and yes, could be common sense...I found this book a good resource, particularly with my first baby. I have several university degrees requiring child development (I am a licensed therapist and work with children and adolescents)...and I figured I knew plenty about babies, their development, and parenting...since I was teaching parenting classes when I had my first baby...BUT...it is easy to get distracted by life changing events; it is easy to lose your common sense when you are overwhelmed with 24/7 care of someone who can't tell you what they want from you...and not all of us are endowed with the natural ability to play...This book helped me to not get ahead of my little one's developmental level (when they are very little, it is easy to think they should be able to do more), it helped give me ideas of what to try when nothing else was working (nothing is better at leaving me flustered than an upset baby)...and I liked the organization and simplicity of the book. I don't pull it out anymore after three babies...but I remember it fondly, and many of the games are now common sense to me even if I started out with less than I like to admit.
That said, this book is probably not necessary for those with a lot of experience with babies (birth - 2yrs). Much of it does come naturally after a while, and children will guide you in their play and make their own games if you are observant. Several of the games are repeated at different age levels with slight variations. This is a good resource for a parent or caregiver feeling overwhelmed or having a hard time getting involved with their child. It's okay that this stuff doesn't always come naturally to all of us.

love this book,

This book has given me so many useful and non-time consuming development games to play with baby. Because it is organized by age, it does not require a huge time commitment to read before it is useful. I invested in several for baby showers! It has proven to be a great gift.

I use my Gymboree Play book more often than this one, which may be because it doesn't have any pictures. I wasn't inspired by any of the activities.

Waste of Time and Money,
By Music Moves Me (Topeka, KS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Games to Play with Babies - 3rd Edition (Paperback)
If you have half a brain, you can come up with these "games" on your own. What a waste of money and time! The brilliant ideas in this book include singing to your baby, telling your baby you love him/her, showing the baby how to roll over, and other completely common sense ideas. You don't need a book to tell you how to do these things. Buy the Gymboree book instead if you are looking for creative games and ideas.

Same old...,
This review is from: Games to Play with Babies - 3rd Edition (Paperback)
I bought this book as an infant caregiver and was disappointed to see that it was all the things I'm already doing with my babies...there were a few different ideas, but overall, not worth it.

A wonderful book.,
By Rabia (Canada) - See all my reviews

I was shocked to see that someone gave this book 1 star- this book is excellent. It is well organized with games grouped in sequence from age 0-3 months upto 9-12 months. There are about 20 games for each age group. Each page has a different game, an easy to understand description, and tells you exactly what skill(s) it will help develop. I found this book creative and insightful, and had ideas I wouldn't have thought of on my own. I am putting this on my wish list for when I have kids of my own.
