Book Description

May 8, 2009
The Games of Robert J. Fischer contains every serious traceable game of chess by Bobby Fischer from 1955 until his death in 2008. An appendix has been added to the original volume to include, in algebraic notation with diagrams, all 20 games actually played in the epic battle of Bobby Fischer vs. Boris Spassky in 1972 in Reykjavik, Iceland and all 30 games in their return match in Montenegro and Yugoslavia in 1992. Includes numerous game annotations, a complete record of Fischer's tournaments and matches, and special articles by Grandmasters Keres and Bisguier, former British Champions Golombek and Barden and openings expert Blackstock.

About the Author

Robert G. Wade was a chess player, author, journalist, and coach. Born on April 10, 1921 in Dunedin, New Zealand, he won the New Zealand championship three times before moving to England in 1948 to further his chess career. He was best known for playing in high level tournaments, including one Interzonal, for winning the British Championship twice, and for writing more than 30 books, of which the most famous by far is this one, “The Chess Games of Robert J. Fischer”, which was later reprinted with more games added as “The Chess Games of Bobby Fischer”. His most famous games were his draw with Bobby Fischer (not many players ever got a draw with Bobby Fischer) in the 1965 Capablanca Memorial in Havana Cuba, in which Bobby played by telex from the Marshall Chess Club since the US State Department banned travel to Cuba, his defeat of Korchnoi in Buenos Aires 1960 and his draw with Grandmaster Murray Chandler in New Zealand in 2006 at age 85.

5.0 out of 5 stars Synopsis, July 9, 2007
The ultimate games anthology: every game by the legendary Bobby Fischer up to and including his historic East v West victory against Boris Spassky in Reykjavik 1972. There is also a complete record of all Fischer's tournament and match performances. Many of the games are furnished with deep explanatory notes. This is a book which made publishing history! With contributions by Leonard Barden, Arthur Bisguier, Les Blackstock, Harry Golombek and Paul Keres.
Kevin O'Connell was a former FIDE - World Chess Federation - zone President who was an expert in rules, ratings and archives. He was instrumental in collecting all traceable games by Bobby Fischer up to his conquest of the World Title in 1972. Bob Wade, twice British champion and for decades chief junior coach of the British Chess Federation, was one of the driving forces behind the explosion of chess in England which led to three team silver medals in the chess Olympiads of 1984, 1986 and 1988 and to a British player, Nigel Short, challenging for the world title in 1993.

Wade won the International Master title in his own right, and would doubtless have obtained a Grandmaster title under modern title stipulations.
