Product Description

Product Description

The Citadel Figure Case has been specifically designed to allow you to transport your models in safety. The soft foam inserts have ready-cut slots to securely hold individual miniatures. With a tough plastic exterior and secure locking system, transporting your models in a Figure Case is the best way to avoid breakages and prevent your painted miniatures from chipping.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good sturdy case, Not so sturdy hinges and latches., December 10, 2009

Anyone who's sifted through my other reviews here on Amazon will realize that I've rated several Games Workshop products and usually rate them quite highly. I love their stuff and have been purchasing it for 20 years now. When it comes to their "Figure Cases" and larger, double-sized "Army Cases" I own quite of few of them and so does my son who has now been in the hobby with me for about six years. Between us we own more than a dozen GW model cases. Here's the good and the bad regarding these cases.

First, the good stuff. The GW Figure Case (and larger Army Case) outer shell is highly durable being hard molded plastic that is double layered with an air space between. Someone could step on the case by accident and your army of models would be well protected. The cases are also lightweight for their size and there's enough play inside that odd shaped or widely posed models can often be stored without damage, yet not so much play that models are likely to come out of their little storage slots. That's the good stuff.

Now, the bad stuff. The negatives I've found with these cases are two weak points, the hinges and latches. Of the cases we have in our collection there are already three broken latches and a broken hinge. The construction of the cases is such that they seem to violate the laws of physics, making it nearly impossible to repair them without major surgery. By that I mean that the construction is done in such a way that it is virtually impossible to repair a broken latch or hinge pin and then put the pieces back together. The only way to do so appears to be to drill or cut additional holes in order to insert the repaired parts. Once the hinges are broken or both latches are broken on a case it is virtually useless for transporting models as there is no way to secure the case in the closed position.

My recommendation is that if you invest in these relatively expensive cases is that you are careful not to overload them or do anything else that will put much stress on the hinges or latches. Other than that they are a good, sturdy storage system, but the weak spots can be a nuisance and leave you with a useless chunk of plastic when they break.

I agree about the latches & hinges. Be careful not to damage them. Otherwise its a great case!!! I only wish I had this years ago. It works well for my mineral & gem collection too :)
