4.0 out of 5 stars Bi-monthly GAMES Pencilwise December 29, 2007
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
This bi-monthly GAMES Magazine spin-off offers sixty-plus pages of 'crosswords, word searches, picture puzzles, cryptograms, trivia, logic, double-crostics, cryptics and other pencil puzzles' reminiscent of GAMES' signature Pencilwise section. Most puzzles are rated on the standard one-to-three star scale of difficulty. The center of each issue contains a ten-page 'special section' of related puzzles. Each issue also features a contest with a $500 grand prize (and famed GAMES T-shirts for lucky random runner-ups). These puzzles are better crafted than those of the cheaper Dell or Penny Press competing publications and at $3.25 an issue this still offers good value. I enjoy the crosswords and double-crostics best.
Over my year-long subscription I accumulated a backlog of unread issues and eventually decided to cancel my 'World Of Puzzles' subscription. I'm saving the unused issues for future use. Single issues are highly recommended for airport bookstores and long airplane or train travel.
Amazon's annual rate is currently about $3.50 less than that directly offered by the publishers (each issue is loaded with subscription cards). However, be advised that subscribing through Amazon takes a LONG time to start (Amazon currently estimates 3-4 months between payment and first issue).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best puzzle magazine out there April 15, 2009
Subscription Term Name:1 year
I have tried the basic crossword and logic puzzle magazines out there, the kind you get at the airport and so on (usually by Penny Press), and the Games Magazine publications, World of Puzzles in particular, are by far the best. The simple physical quality of them is better, the puzzles more interesting and just overall a better buy. I admit I have never finished all the puzzles in it, but it's also great because I can keep them a while and still find puzzles to do! If you do a lot of puzzles, get a subscription. If you're more limited on time and never finish as many of them as you like, you can generally find this at places like Borders and buy every other edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best puzzle magazine I've found June 1, 2011
By M. Lamp
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
This magazine is on the pricey side, but it is packed full of really clever puzzles -- of all kinds. There are the staples: crosswords, paint by numbers, cryptoquotes, battleships -- but also all kinds of original, unique puzzles as well. You get what you pay for with this magazine. It keeps me entertained for many days (and nights). I save the old ones and go back to find a little nugget of a puzzle that I hadn't finished when I first looked at it. Great magazine -- so glad it is on the market.

2.0 out of 5 stars A mere shadow of the former GAMES Magazine August 28, 2014
Subscription Term Name:1 year
Even though the people at GAMES Magazine took my subscription money and then disappeared years ago (found out years later that they had filed bankruptcy), I took a chance at ordering this through my grandson's school. What a disappointment. My biggest complaint is the the paper is incredibly cheap. Doing puzzles causes ink to transfer to pages underneath. The color printing on some the pages can barely be seen. Too many puzzles are crammed onto pages leaving no room to solve. I happen to love nonogram puzzles which are included in this magazine, however I never do them because they are printed entirely too small and it's impossible to erase on any of these pages without completely erasing the puzzle. The "special sections" are, in my opinion, a waste. They are huge sections devoted entirely to one type of puzzle. Very frustrating if you don't happen to like the type they pick. Overall a cheap imitation of the former GAMES magazine. Won't be purchasing again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Puzzle Lovers December 20, 2008
By Sue
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
For those who love puzzles, Games and World of Games magazines are the ultimate in fun and variety. The crosswords are unique and include different varieties of wordplay. The sudoku has challenging designs, the picture logic I have not seen anywhere else, and the cryptic crosswords are amazing. There is a bit of everything for every kind of puzzle fan, but my personal favorite is Mixed Doubles which is a crossword play on homonyms. I have subscribed to this magazine for years and enjoy each fresh new edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the BEST game magazine out there January 2, 2013
Subscription Term Name:1 year
If you've never read "World of Puzzles" magazine, you're in for a treat.

Well, first of all, you don't just READ "World"...you take part in it. This is without doubt the best games subscription you could ever buy, possibly better even than the original it "tagteams" with: Games (1-year auto-renewal).

"World of Puzzles" delivers just what it promises: wall-to-wall puzzles, and no two issues are fully alike. There are repetitive "columns" that show up from issue to issue, but many of the features change.

Among the regulars, there are a variety of crossword puzzles (but never too many), including one in which a pair of almost identical crossword puzzles are offered with two sets of clues, but the reader has to choose which clue belongs to which puzzle; several "quote" challenges wherein the player has to figure out by crypto-letter substitution or "dropping" in letters from choices above the column; a variety of logic puzzles including "Paint-by-Numbers," wherein logic is used to "paint" boxes in a grid to form a picture; a couple of word search puzzles; a variety of word play puzzles; and always a Special Section which not only consists of a variety of puzzles within the section, but also a unique theme that unites them in a clever manner.

It's a magazine that I keep copies of by my bedside, beside my chair, in the bathroom, and in my travel bag. If you EVER find yourself somewhere where you need to kill time, this publication is a MUST. Sure, book reading is a nice diversion, but solving puzzles is better.

Believe me, there is always something for you to do in this terrific magazine. Pair it with "Games" magazine, which alternates months with "World of Puzzles," and you'll be set.

[Oh, and just in case you're bored, I've hidden an acronym of my name within my review. See if you can find it!]

Is this a kids' puzzle magazine or adult?
Adult. There is a page or two of "Kid Stuff," but in general the puzzles are more complicated than most 6 year olds would find fun. I'd say buy a copy off a rack before subscribing to see what you both think.
