Product Description

Amazon.com

Winner of an Oppenheim Best Toy Award, this delightful Gamewright card game is as intellectually tasty as it is hilariously unappetizing. Forty-four cards in the bread-shaped deck are nine separate elements of sandwich fare: one card portrays a lettuce leaf, another shows tomatoes, a third offers a smear of peanut butter, a fourth depicts egg slices, and so on. After the cards are dealt, players lay them down on a central pile (Peanut butter on top of eggs?! Gross!) to construct a card-sandwich that can be won in several different ways. If you see a pair of elements, or a "sandwich" of matching elements--for example, lettuce, pickles, then lettuce again--you slam your hand on the food pile and keep the cards. There are also three "thief" cards to stop (i.e., smack!) and eight devilish "muncher" cards, which demand that you get a pair or a "sandwich" while laying down a specified number of cards or you lose your grub. Slamwich takes about 20 minutes to play, and is deeply pleasurable for young ones, and pretty darned amusing for adults, too. Slamwich is for two to six players.

Product Description

2 to 6 Players. Playing time: about 20 minutes. Flip and stack this clever loaf of cards to build slamwiches and double-deckers. Tomato, onion, tomato... slap! Get there first and win the pile. But watch out-you'll have to catch the thief and stop the muncher from stealing the stack of cards. When you're out of cards you're out of the game. The player who collects all of the cards wins. Parental alert: a sharp eye and fast hand will prevail. Play all out, but the kids will beat you every time! Slamwich teaches reading readiness skills, like visual discrimination and sequencing. While kids are flipping and stacking cards, they're actually learning how to recognize a series, make combinations, and anticipate what might happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for the entire family November 13, 1999

Our family has really enjoyed this game! My daughter recieved it for her 8th birthday from the daughter of a toy shop owner, and it really hit the mark. Everyone from Dad (who is not an indoor game enthusiast) to the 4 year old loves playing this game, and even the 2 year old has been heard to mutter "Stop, thief!" on occasion. It is also a game our 13 year old takes to babysitting jobs and the kids all love to play it with her. I don't know if it is academically educational, but it sure develops hand-eye coordination and memory skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks everyone for your reviews... December 2, 1999

Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game based solely on the recommendations of other people who own it and wrote positive reviews on this website. I dont have children so it's hard for me to pick out games. I sent this game to a 6 yr old relative and I heard back from his mother that he loves it, even took it with them on their vacation. She said the cards are getting a little dog-eared from so many games. They should make a better set with plastic coating on the cards, the paper cardboard wont hold up for many years but at that age not much survives anyway. He's already lost a card but the game goes on. She appreciates a game that she can play with him and enjoy it herself without getting too bored. There's something about the speed of the game that really appeals to this little boy. He loves to slap his hand on the deck, gives him great pride when he wins a round. So that was one gift that was a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love it! November 30, 1999

My kids, ages 5 and 9, both have a blast playing the game. We use the advanced rules for the older child. In very short order, the kids start winning. We even find people like to be spectators when you are playing. I also like the durable well-sized box the cards come in, making it easy for the kids to put away when finished playing. It's right-sized for taking along on a vacation, but probably not to play in the car.

This game is enjoyable for all ages. It is pretty silly. It is not a mental challenge, but that is why it can span all age groups. We get a little silly and loud with this one. Read more
