2.0 out of 5 stars not exciting enough for boys
My 4 (almost 5) year old grandson was bored by this game pretty quickly. I'm looking for something with more action.

They discribe this as a card game, but you don't have to hold the cards in your hand, you just fan the entire pile out across the floor and take turns picking a card from the pile, And the peices are heavy like puzzle peices, not thin like cards.
You spread out the cards on the floor, picture down. Take turns picking a card. If the card doesn't match any of the snakes that are on the floor then you just set it down to start a new snake. Each snake must have a head, tail and atleast one middle section. The more peices you get on the snake the better, but the initial object to the game is to form the most snakes and then move it over to you side of the floor(the snake pit). If there is a tie in the number of snakes, then the longest snake wins.

This game is appropriate for ages 3 and up. This is a fairly simple game. I would say most 7 yr old and older would find it boring unless playing with a younger child.
We have two sets, so we can make longer snakes.
Need to play this game on the floor.

If it were up to me, I'd burn Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. This game is so much "funner". It's different each time you play. My husband and I even played it by ourselves one night. Our four year old daughter absolutely loves it. Additionally, the cards are very thick and sturdy and will travel well.

I own it and I don't even have kids! (I do have two pet snakes, though.)

Another benefit of his besides those mentioned in the other reviews...Hisss is a good physical game too, because you have to stre-e-e-tch your body to place the cards in position when the snakes get long.

Here's a tip - buy two sets and play with 100 cards instead of 50. This makes even longer snakes possible and also gives you two of every head and tail card! Just make plenty of floor space available!

5.0 out of 5 stars Colorful fun for the whole family!, March 4, 2004

We really enjoy this game! The cards are very colorful and thick (think durability), and the game is simple enough, but can have endless variations. The cards have either cute snake heads, or tails in a single color. The middle sections of the snake have two bright colors. You take turns each picking a card from the fanned pile, and try to build snakes by matching up the colors. The person who completes the snake (adding the last head or tail) wins it, and slides it to their "snake pit" while making a HISSS. There are two "rainbow" wild cards.

My kids love this even more than UNO, and we have created a version we call "worms or two headed snakes" that they think is hysterical. They are 4 and 6 years old, and have been playing this for a year. They are learning how to be good sports, especially when someone else gets to collect the 22 card snake we all wanted to win. We all cheer for the person who gets creative and combines snakes. I can see this being good for the preschool set learning their colors as well.

If you are looking for a good quick simple and entertaining family game, HISSS would be a great choice. We love it : )

My kids (ages 6, 8, and 10) LOVE this game which we've had for about a year. We play a slightly different variety when the older kids are playing... you can hold one card in your hand instead of playing every card immediately. This puts a little bit of strategy into the game.

I brought this game along to a sleepover with my daughter's Girl Scout troop (a bunch of 10-year olds) and they couldn't get enough of this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game!, November 9, 2003

This is a great game for the preschool-2nd grade age group. The object is to build the most color-coded snakes . There are two rainbow wild cards in the deck that allow kids to help them complete any snake. The other element of the game is having head and tail cards in your hand to complete the snake. This is good for younger kids because it teacher color recognition and older kids learn strategy skills. My sons are 4 and 7 and they've always enjoyed playing this game together. They have introduced it to friends who come over and they always enjoy it. I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish there were a button for ten stars..., January 9, 2007
This review is from: Gamewright Hisss Card Game (Toy)
ManomanoMAN! My kids are 3 & 5 and I have yet to find a better game that both can play together. I rave about Gamewright to everyone I know, and I place this game at the top of the Gamewright collection (at least for the "young kid" games). Some skill, some luck, no reading or counting but plenty of thinking. And sturdy construction to boot. Awesome.

My son played this game in kindergarten and loved it, so we bought it. It is great fun, it teaches kids how to visualize and it reinforces counting skills. Easy for kids as young as 3-4 to play, and fun for them to play it with friends, older siblings, and parents, because they work together to create snakes of different lengths. You can take the cards with you on vacation as an easy way to keep the kids occupied (not in the car, though, as you need to spread out). It's a great value as well. It goes quickly, so buy two sets if you have lots of kids or want to extend the playing time.

Coming to a plane (floor or table top) near you is likely the most fun and simple game you could ever play with your young children. I bought this based on the customer reviews and have had many hours of fun playing this game with my two young sons.

The game graphics are colorful and cute, and the game play reinforces matching, logic, and counting skills. Set up and clean up are just a few seconds each.

My only critique is that there should be more heads and tail cards, but like one reviewer wrote, one can always buy a second set. I'll likely be doing that soon, because I think we'll be playing this for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME!, February 24, 2007

Purchased this for our 3.5 year old daughter because she's fascinated by snakes. This game is simple to learn, yet you have to think and use logic. Best of all, it's fun. It's not a long game, takes about 20 minutes, so it's good for young players. It's small and doesn't take up a lot of room to store, great for travel. Cards are thick and durable. I highly recommend HISS!
