5.0 out of 5 stars SNAP Decisions, July 7, 2002

What to purchase? SNAP is a wonderful decision!!!

Our family and friends have been playing SNAP for some time now with children as young as 3 and adults as old as 83. With its great artwork and creative design and rules, SNAP creates fun times for all.

SNAP play itself involves no language or math skills... it mainly involves spatial relationships - object orientation and color matching. SNAP is very much like doing a very simple jigsaw puzzle. Game 2, the simplest, simply involves being the first player to get rid of his/her cards first. Games 1 and 3 involve points and score keeping.

SNAP has a very unique play feedback mechanism (incorrectly placed tiles won't snap together) that prevents players from making a bad placement of a SNAP tile card. This feature makes SNAP very good for a wide range of abilities. SNAP should be a great resource for persons with disabilities.

SNAP plays quite fast, so parents should always be able to get at least one quick game in with a pleading child when time is tight. SNAP can, however, keep kids busy for hours at a time.

SNAP allows for many variations in play. Children, especially, tend to make up there own games and rules which fosters creativity.

I know of one elementrary school that plans to put a SNAP game in every classroom including special ed classrooms. I could not offer a better endorsement.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a jigsaw puzzle! It's a game!, October 8, 2002

Why didn't they have this when I was a kid?

The idea of the game is to use puzzle pieces to create a series of long dragons. The longer your dragon, the more points you get. Well, those are the simple rule, which are great for young players, but if you're a fan of strategy games, there are more complex gameplay variations that will put your brain to the test. Or, you don't have to play it as a game at all. It's fun to just put it together as an free form jigsaw puzzle, too.

My kids (5 and 7) love this game. We haven't really played the actual game yet--as soon as the pieces were out of the box, the kids started putting the puzzle together. The puzzle pieces can be put together in endless combinations, and so the fun can last a long time. I figure that by the time they get tired of the puzzle part of the game, I can start reading the rules.

A child doesn't have to read to play this game, but they must love puzzles (and most do) to enjoy it.

The puzzle pieces are made of standard cardboard and they can get worn out after some use. But I think one will get enough fun out of this game to worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic game!, August 5, 2006

We got this game for a summer camp for 6-12 year olds. Both the children and the adults LOVED to play this game. It's good for all ages. The only problem we has was that some of the tabs on the puzzle pieces got frayed because the younger children tried to force them to fit. The game held up well though and EVERYONE enjoyed playing!

We've purchased several of the Gamewright games (Frog Juice, Loot, Moose in the House, Lucky Catch) and are big fans of them all. This is a little different than the regular card games we've gotten. You get puzzle pieces and need to fit them onto the pieces already played to try and connect dragons. Sounds easy, but it is tricky. Saying that it is tricky is different than hard though! My almost 5 year old plays it just as well as his 9 year old brother. It is another great game that is great for the whole family to play. I love being able to find games that the kids love and can play, that I enjoy as well. This fits the bill!

4.0 out of 5 stars Intimidating Instructions, March 8, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

When we first got out this game, the instructions were really quite overwhelming. There are several different ways to play, and the first game listed (Game 1) is by far the most complex. In truth, my kids haven't been willing to give it a try yet, although I think I understand how to play. In some ways, similar to Scrabble, in that you play off existing tiles, trying to create the highest scoring combination, keeping track of the score for each play. Game 2 is much more user friendly and probably should have listed first to avoid scaring people off. We tried this version and enjoyed it, even the little ones can join in although they may not make the best moves possible. There is also a third (and fourth) way to play, but truthfully, my four year old just loves to get this out and put it together like a puzzle. I am glad I made the purchase.

My 5 year old received this for easter. He loves this game. It was so easy to play. I recommend it, particularly for gifted children. It's easily adaptable as well into a simpler or more difficult game depending on the age and capability of the child you are playing with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but it could be simpler..., January 3, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

Got this game as an after Christmas present. It had great reviews and I do have a little puzzle lover (9 years old) so I thought I would try it. She did like it as a challenging and changing puzzle, not a game. Looking through the variations of the games I found them all complicated, and doubt we will ever play them. Other reviewers have found the multiple playing ideas a real plus, so maybe I'm just not smart enough to play a child's game. But it is difficult, in my opinion, deciphering if all the dragon is complete, how many snaps it took to make it, thus how high of a score you get, etc. A much more simple version of this game, which we got for Christmas, is Hiss. Don't mean to imply it's the same game, it's not, it may not even be by the same maker. But it is the same idea in that you are building a creature which, to score, must have a head, and tail, and middle. Hiss is very easy to play, loved it, and the same child who built Snap as a puzzle played Hiss as a game. If I had not played Hiss previously I might have liked this game better. As it is I feel this is more value as challenging puzzle than a game.
