Verified Purchase
The Gamma X-ST Stringing Machine (manual spring tension winder, 6-pt quick mount, fixed-clamp, $754 including freight) is a huge upgrade from my previous stringer Silent Partner Swing (drop-weight with clutch, 6-pt mount, floating-clamp, $250 including freight) that i used for more than 7 years primarily for myself and friends. In late 2008 and early 2009, the SP Swing was used to support our weekly grocery and i had approx. 10-20 stringing jobs a week.

Both machines are table top, top-notch build quality, and stable. However, stringing with a floating clamps on bigger head size frames (oversize) and open stringing patterns was a real challenge since floating clamps' dimension is best suited for mid to mid-sized frames (imho). The fixed clamps on the Gamma X-ST handle varying head sizes with ease plus its 6-pt mount system holds the racquet tighly especially when doing the crosses.

While it is true that both are table-top machines, the Swing can use any table or counter-top and you can string a racquet comfortably but the Gamma X-ST needs a specific table height (relative to stringer's height) given the latter is huge. I'm 5'9" and the table height needs to be between 20" - 25" to be comfortable. I guess if you're above 6 ft in height then, the regular table or counter-top should be okay. Better yet, purchase the Gamma floor stand for $119.

In my experience, accuracy of stringing jobs seemed to be okay for both but you need to have a significant experience in drop-weight machine to be accurate.

I also agree with the other reviewer about other vendors prices. That said, I have owned this stringer 5+ years and after 50-60 racquets strung I can tell you it's durable, accurate and easy to use-- once you learn how. The only cons would be that it will not be the fastest stringing machine out there, it still takes me 45 mintues on average. Still, if you are just going to be stringing for yourself and a few friends, you can't go wrong with this.

I just came accross this ad, and thought to say something about the price of this item. Please be aware that many other merchants sell this product for about half the price.
