comforting, sophisticated, and progressive, March 19, 2002
This review is from: Gandalf's Beat Machine (Audio CD)
I confess I'm not even a Hip Hop fan. So when I picked this album at the store, I din't even know who Eligh was; I just listened to it and loved it. (And the look on the cover was really cool, which I think is a shame you can't appreciate on this site!)
As a die-hard fan of technoie/progressive/electronica club music (like Aphex Twin), I find this album so my taste! His use of "16 original instrumentals" creates a fantastic (and werid) feel to the 15 pieces of music. Especially the track 15 "Idea Man" is to die for. With repeated beat and piano sound as a base, he adds this sophisticated and comforting melody to this piece.
In fact, I'm waiting more of this kind of album from Eligh. A question from an ignorant fan: has he done work like this before? Work that focuses solely on his instrumental art??
