4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting
**note: at the time of publishing this review, the sample tracks Amazon has here are NOT from this CD, I don't know what they're from, but it's the wrong CD**
As a jazz fan, it's hard to review this cd because there's not much to compare this to. This cd is closest to Happy Apple's older stuff in spirit, in that it rocks REALLY hard. That makes sense, considering...

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong MP3s.
The music by The Gang Font featuring Interloper is really good. The problem is, that's not what's for sale in the MP3 store here. I downloaded this album after listening to their stuff on their MySpace page, but got some Jaga Jazzist-sounding stuff instead. Not entirely awful, but definitely not what I paid $8.99 for. Anybody know how to get a refund and/or fix...

This review is from: Gang Font featuring Interloper (Audio CD)
**note: at the time of publishing this review, the sample tracks Amazon has here are NOT from this CD, I don't know what they're from, but it's the wrong CD**

As a jazz fan, it's hard to review this cd because there's not much to compare this to. This cd is closest to Happy Apple's older stuff in spirit, in that it rocks REALLY hard. That makes sense, considering that the bassist from Happy Apple plays guitar on this cd, Dave King (from the Bad Plus and Happy Apple) plays drums, Craig Taborn (Chris Potter's Underground trio) on keys and the bassist from Helmet comprise the group! The guitar is distorted and loud, the keys mostly add counterpoint hits or double the guitar on melody, the drums rock, and the bass sits in the background, adding poly-rhythmic color but not much else. In other words, this is more of a heavy-metal cd than anything, maybe something that fans of Mr. Bungle, Jesus Lizard, or John Zorn's crazy free guitar work, or Tim Berne's work might appreciate most. This is not free jazz, just heavy progressive jazz (if i had to label the sound). If you like the CD, you might also like "Thruster!" with Timothy Young on guitar, Kaveh Rastegar (Kneebody) on bass, and Matt Chamberlain (Critters Buggin) on drums.
