Book Description

November 10, 2007
Since September 11, 2001, the United States has launched a "War on Terrorism," but it has neglected its own "War on Gangs" in its own homeland. Every year homegrown gang terrorist kill, maim, and do more harm in financial losses to Americans than foreign terrorist do. According to the Justice Department there are about 21,000 gangs with over 750,000 gang members nationwide ~~ of the 25,000 murders committed every year in the U.S., most are attributed to homegrown terrorist gangs like MS-13, the Texas Syndicate, the Mexican Mafia, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Crips and many other gangs. The damage done in loss of American lives, property crimes, and organized drug trafficking by homegrown gangs are incalculable. While foreign terrorist want to destroy the American way of life, the homegrown gang terrorist want to live it at the expense of American lives. "We're fighting the terrorist in Iraq, so we don't have to fight them at home." This quote from the Bush Administration is out of touch with reality. There is a war at home ~ one the government has neglected. The nearly $400 billion that the U.S. has spent since the start of the Afghanistan ~ Iraq wars, and the billions more that it will spend this year to continue fighting these foreign wars, could be better spent on fighting a war on American soil that has claimed many more American casualties. I'm very critical of the prison system. Being there are two sides to every story, as a Christian, I've decided to share the other side of the story so few people know about. This exposé will shed some light on Texas gangs, the Texas prison system, those corrupt authority figures that are in charge of running the Texas prison system, and those government figures determined to protect it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A voice rarely heard, May 7, 2008
This review is from: Gangs, Prisons, Parole $ The Politics Behind Them (Paperback)
A voice rarely heard speaking on the subject speaks out on America's prison systems - a prisoner himself. "Gangs, Prisons, Parole: The Politics Behind Them" is his message, and surprisingly, it isn't what you'd expect from a Texas convict. Speaking intellectually, he states that America has ignored its 'War on Gangs', and states that gangs do more damage financially each year than foreign terrorists. Why doesn't America do more about it? The reformed prisoner and Ex-gang leader in his own right also speaks on the current problems of the Texas prison system, with an eye corrupt figures and those who guard them. "Gangs, Prisons, Parole: The Politics Behind Them" is highly recommended for community library collections on social issues and for anyone who wants a closer eye look on one of America's forgotten problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Incredible Journey, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Gangs, Prisons, Parole $ The Politics Behind Them (Paperback)
Bobby Delgado takes the reader on a disturbing and graphic journey into the Texas prison system. He explains and tries to make the reader understand and sympathise (I did) how 'good guys' can still find their way in and once incarcerated stand little chance of ever turning their lives around. One can understand how this happens and can blame the institutional racism from the town sheriff, and the lawyers and the guards and of course the gangs within the system too. It appears everyone is some sort of racist. Delgado himself, whilst perhaps not realising it suffers from the disease too. All too often he is bitter against the 'White Man' (Who can blame him, after what he's been through at their brutal hands?) but he must also realise that there are bad apples in every box. I was further disturbed at his comments on homosexuals early on in the book and again would remind him that homosexuals like blacks and Hispanics in America (or so it seems in Texas) are a minority persecuted group.
Nevertheless, despite the faults in this book Delgado tells it how it is and the book makes fascinating if not disturbing reading.
