It Just Gets Better!,

I Need my GANTZ Fix!! I finished this disk and am waiting for disk 9 to show up.
You just never know who is next to Die. The Plot is so well woven you can start to see that GANTZ is doing more than just allowing people to die. It is more complex than that. The Voice actors are great! The opening song just helps with the energy the show gives off. I want one of those suits! That Bum from the first show keeps showing up. The story only gets better. A Main character dies but GANTZ is up to something!! He holds the cards. A friend wants to sit down and watch them. He feels he is missing out. Yes he is!!

Gantz simply must be recognized if for nothing more than its unapologetic killing of as many people as possible, whether they be main character or not. Having read the manga, I can say that the it only gets more depressing and bloody, which is not neccesarily a bad thing. All things aside, Gantz really explores ideas about human interaction, and this volume really fleshes out the character of Kurono, while at the same time making him a complete badass. This show just gets better and better with each volume, and I hope that ADV will decide to extend the series beyond just the two announced seasons.

Content-wise, this is the best volume of the Gantz saga so far. Being that each of the three episodes (as I weep at the lack of a fourth as in Volume 7) takes place in-battle, there is no shortage of the good 'ol extreme action and violence one comes to expect from every single episode of Gantz thus far. There is significantly less standing around and exposition, although one takes notice that several minutes of the beginning of each of the episodes is a rather irriating recap of the episode just seen not more than 15 minutes before. But as far as plot goes.... this one's definitely off the chart. Enough mind-blowing events to cause, well, your mind to blow.
My only few complaints stem from the fact that the art seems to have slipped just a little, more than likely due to the fact that the Japanese production company (Gonzo) in charge of Gantz were on an incredibly demanding schedule to get these episodes created on time. However, the art and direction in the show is still just a bit higher than top-notch, and 99% of everyone who loves the show won't care. And fortunately, in this volume, all of the extras are intact, including the original Japanese language track. UNfortunately, however, there are almost no extras to speak of otherwise. Which I suppose when a series is getting into the later volumes of its run, one would come to expect such a thing. At any rate, any fan of Gantz has already ordered this volume, already watched it, and already loved it.

WOW!,
This review is from: Gantz - Deathwatch (Vol. 8) (DVD)
There is not another anime similar to gantz in all of it's aspects, truly unpredictable. Lots of action in this volume but the third game has the toughest opponents yet and like the description on the back points out: no one is safe. With every player fighting in the first 2 episodes on this dvd, you think everything is alright. Then gantz hits you with plot twists that make you like the anime even more. I don't want to give away any real details because you must see this yourself and then you have to get the next volume. Deathwatch is a perfect name to describe this volume.

Are you sitting around watching your anime and thinking "well this is pretty good anime, but what I really want is an anime that will scar me for life? Like, such a thing that after I have watched it, I will never be completely all right, ever, ever again?"
If that sounds like what you are looking for, then this is the anime for you. |
