What a Group! What an Album!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ganz Oben: Hits Mcmxci-Mcmxcvii (Audio CD)
This is a MUST buy for anyone who loves good music and great harmonies, even if you don't understand German! Die Prinzen (The Princes) are 5 incredibly talented men from Lipzig, Germany who have created a sound that's so cool and alive, you'll be amazed when you realize that most of the songs are just their voices against a drum track! If you like the sound of Queen and are impressed with the vocalizations of the a capella group Take 6, this is one album you will love! And if you understand German, you'll appreciate the funny and entertaining lyrics. Even if you don't know much about harmonies or speak any German (I don't...I had to have someone translate the songs for me), you too will love this album! The songs are upbeat and fun to listen to. I highly recommend this album to everyone who wants to hear some great songs and add a little flavor to their musical collection. This CD is particularly great for first time buyers/listeners of Die Prinzen because it is the Group's Greatest Hits album. It has a lot of tracks and a great sampling of their songs. Die Prinzen is not your everyday group, and that's what makes them so great! Just look at the other reviews - they are all 5 stars! I really love this album and would be willing to bet that you will too!

Beautiful melodies, Great voices, Awsome A-Capella abilities, Clever lyrics, And just pure fun!!!Die Prinzen will make you simply fall in love with the German language and music, even if you cannot understand one single word in German. My first Experience with Die Prinzen was back in 1993, when I opened the TV and was amazed to see a song in German played all the time on my MTV, it was "Alles nur geklaut". I did not understand one word in German back then and still I simply fell in love with this song and kept tracking the releases of Die Prinzen ever since. When this album was released as a hits collection of the band, I knew that buying it would be the smartest thing I'll ever do. This CD contains all of Die Prinzen's greatest hits, and give you a real taste of the unique music this band makes, combining modern rock music with their wonderful a-capella abilities. "Kuessen verboten" - their first hit, is here, as well as the smash hit "(Du musst ein) Schwein sein", and of course, the all-time classic "Alles nur geklaut". The lyrics Die Prinzen write to their songs are sarcastic, very clever, and also funny, in an attempt to give us a new way to look at life, from the eyes of former East-Germans. The best example for that in my opinion can be found in the songs "Alles nur geklaut" and "Schwein sein". When I decided to go and study German, this album helped me A LOT, and I'm not just saying that. I can assure you that even if you don't understand one word in German, you will ADORE this CD and this band, because of the great music that they make, music you can't compare to any other artist I think, not in Germany, and of course, nowhere else... Don't hasitate, go out and order it, it's worth it, and you'll love it!!! Auf wiedersehn!!

They are funny, but of perfect harmony of voices!,

Die Prinzen is one of my favourite groups. There are some reasons why I like them. Firstly, they can sing in various styles. Secondly, they are usually very humorous, often very witty, sometimes very serious. They can sing not only funny satires or comical stories, but also a little sorrowful lovesick songs. Above all, they have an outstanding merit, that is to say, perfect harmony of voices. Sometimes very dynamic, sometimes very calm. In this "GANZ OBEN" album, they gathered their hit songs from their debut to 1997. Therefore, I can find many favourite songs. Furthermore, there are some songs which one cannot hear in any other albums of theirs, and some of them ("In der nacht ist der Mensch nicht gern alleine," "Sandmännchen," "Schlottersteinhymne,") are very enjoyable. Singing "GANZ OBEN," they cheer up not-so-smart boys. In "Junimond," they sing a vacant heart of a man whose love was over. In addition, one can hear the live-version of "Abgehau'n." This live-version is a little more calm than the original version, therefore this "Abgehau'n" is also very charming in a way. In conclusion, I can say with confidence that "GANZ OBEN" is also a must-buy item, even for a person who already has all the original albums of Die Prinzen.

An excellent collection,

If you aren't familiar with this group, this is a nice introduction (with the exception of the awful track "Das letzte Schrei"). I would tend to think that anyone would be in a position to enjoy the excellent singing, but the songs are only really funny if you understand German.

Slightly disappointing,
This review is from: Ganz Oben: Hits Mcmxci-Mcmxcvii (Audio CD)
I was confused as to the nature of this album. I had expected it to be a new album from Die Prinzen, but instead found it to be a compillation of songs, plus some new ones. For me it wasn't that big of a deal, since I don't own all of their albums yet anyway, and also the tracks which aren't found elsewhere are very good. This is a hits album, and as such the tracks are all very good. If you are new to the group, or you want it for the seven (of 20) tracks which you probably won't find anywhere else, then it's a good choice. The tracks are: 1. Ganz Oben* 2. Gabi und Klaus 3. Millionär 4. Mann im Mond 5. Mein Fahrrad 6. Küssen Verboten 7. Bombe 8. In Der Nacht ist der Mensch nicht gern Alleine* 9. Vergammelte Speisen 10. Sandmänchen* 11. Alles nur Geklaut 12. Schlottersteinhymne* 13. Überall 14. Abgehau'n (Live)* 15. Was Soll Ich Ihr Schenken? 16. (Du Musst ein) Schwein Sein 17. Alles Mit'm Mund 18. Audi Victoria 19. Der Letzte Schrei* 20. Junimond* *songs not found on other albums

After a taste, it was a MUST-BUY!,

I first heard the title song GANZ OBEN on a tape my friend from Baden-Württemberg made for me in '98. This song was dynamic, energetic and inspiring (if you speak German, you can gain even more good vibes from the lyrics than if you only listen to the music). In October '99 I found a copy of the GANZ OBEN album, and picked it up because of the title song, as well as the fact that a German instructor recommended it to help develop a better command of the language. I was greatly pleased to find all of the rest of the music on the album a testiment to this group's various musical and lyrical talents. There is humor and sentimentality, sarcasm and a lot more... "Audi Victoria" is a surprisingly beautiful choral piece and "Mein Fahrrad" will have anyone who drives in rush-hour traffic cracking up (as long as they speak Deutsch), but a lot of fun is to be had by every soon-to-be-fan of Die Prinzen...

I have over a hundred cd's and this is my favorate. There is nothing like this in america. Everytime I listen to it, i'm impressed. If you can't speak any german, you'll still enjoy it. And those of us that can speak german will absolutely melt when they listen to it. This album is the best thing I have ever heard
