1.0 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding!
This will be the first book I have ever returned to Amazon. If you enjoy a litany of what this author bought at garage sales and how much she paid, then read on. I found about 8 color pages and the rest was drawings. Out of date look to it. Who wants 15 refrigerators and 55 TV sets anyway?

I don't go to garage sales but after seeing her on TV and realizing I could use just the old things I already had around the house and make them over to look like things in the showrooms. Her ideas are fantastic and very creative. The fact that she recycles everything and saves someone elses throwaways from the landfill is a neat way to think about it. Even though I don't garage sale I still have them and her pricing and bargaining guide in the back helps me price the items for my own sales. I know what to price and how much I'll probably end up getting. I may go to a few sales this summer if I run out of my own stuff to work with and I'll know exactly what to pay. Thanks Shelley for making garage sales the trendy place to shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK, May 25, 1999

I am a garage sale-er, crafty, painter, do-it-yourselfer. But this book really opened my eyes. I now look at things quite differently. This book by-passes Shabby Chic and makes any style (your personal style) attainable without having to get a second job.

I couldn't put this book down after I brought it home. I stuck Post-It notes all through it to remind me to try tons of her ideas. So many of her ideas are easy to do and her writing style makes me want to jump up and get started! I thoroughly recommend this book for people who don't even go to garage sales... you'll look at what you already have in a totally different way!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best do-it-yourself decorating book., February 7, 2003

I can't put this book down. I've read it from cover to cover twice. I never thought I could be creative but this book really inspires me to try. Everything is so easy and she is right on about taking things apart and putting them back together again. I've made several things in her book with the stuff I have and can't believe how good everything looks and her instructions are super easy. The pricing guide helps me (a novice garage sale person) know what to pay. This book is a real inspiration and I love it. I'm going to buy more for my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL! Very highly recommended!, May 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Garage Sale Decorator's Bible: How to Find Treasures, Fix Them & Furnish Your Home (Paperback)
I *LOVE* this book! It gives explicit, step-by-step directions to repair/enhance all types of finds, from picture frames to caned chairs ... e.g., how to do the caning, how to enhance simple frames or repair fancy ones, all kinds of ways to treat wood, and zillions of other things for just about anything you might find at a garage sale. Although many are of no interest to me, I would have happily bought it for the framing and finishing sections alone -- and the book just arrived, so I haven't begun to see what else is included. My only complaint is that there should have been photos of finished items so we'd know what we're striving toward (and, given the hefty pricetag for a paperback, that doesn't seem unreasonable) ... At the very least, there should have been a diagram for each and every project. (There are color photos, but perilously few, and all but one was of no remote interest to me.) Nevertheless, the wealth of information makes this a true bargain, and I sure love mine! This would make a great gift for anyone who frequents garage sales, is on a tight budget, bought (or is thinking of buying) a fixer-upper, and/or is a do-it-yourselfer. Even if you don't go to garage sales, this will show you what to do with junk from your basement or your parents' attic, etc.

This is a terrific book! The best do it yourself decorating book I've had and I have had them all. Her projects are so creative, inexpensive and easy, plus I love her stories. I can identify myself in them. What a creative genius, love it, love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, January 27, 2003

This review is from: Garage Sale Decorator's Bible: How to Find Treasures, Fix Them & Furnish Your Home (Paperback)
This is the best home decorating project book ever. I saw it on the New York Design Center's web site. It's their book of choice so I thought I'd try it and they were right. It gives me so many different ways of doing things with stuff I have around the house plus I love flea markets and garage sales. My home is gorgeous and it cost me next to nothing. I like that she gives you so many options of things to use. There are enough projects in here to keep me busy for years and they are all very easy. I'm giving this book to all my friends. I absolutely LOVE this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars garage sale decorators's bible: how to find treasures,, January 18, 2003

l am so disappointed in this book after having this book on my wish list for 6 months l really looked forward to getting this book delivered, what a disappointment, l am sending this book back, something l have never done with over my 200+ craft and decorator books l have purchased from amazon alone.
The book is paper back, the sketches are terrible and the few color pages are even worse, the quality is terrible. Not to mention the cost of the book, save your money, this will soon be available at your next garage sale or favorite thrift store!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Book for Decorators, January 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Garage Sale Decorator's Bible: How to Find Treasures, Fix Them & Furnish Your Home (Paperback)
This is the best book I've bought. I can't tell you how many things I've done and all the good ideas. I especially like the options--not having to do it exactly. There are so many different things I've used like she says that will work. I never thought of decorating that way before but it is working and I just love it. Other books I've gotten maybe have 10 to 15 projects and this is full of projects and ideas. I will never look at a lamp the same way again and I've made lots of tuffets for my craft booth and that alone makes the house payment. Thank you Ms Kincaid.
