Snow Shovel,
By Mark in Vermont (Northern Vermont USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Garant Yukon Street L Shovel Ya135ls Snow Shovels
When I was a kid, my dad had this big, tall snow shovel with a gold-toned metal blade. I remember trying to use it a few times, but it was just too tall for me, but the interesting thing was that it was extremely light weight. Many years later when I started doing property care, I was shopping for a snow shovel that I didn't have to bend over half way to the ground to use, and I found the same thing at a hardware store, only with a red blade. I bought it. I used it for a number of years, and it was perfect with a fairly large blade (but not too big) which was made of aluminum. It was quite tough, and useful. But then it got "lost" by someone, so I went looking for another. All the stores have these whiz-bang plastic shovels and "back-savers" with bent handles, but they all require bending over to use effectively, at least at my 5'11" height. And everywhere I went and asked for an aluminum shovel all the clerks would hand me a grain scoop which has a way-too-big blade and an ineffective handle configuration for removing snow. I gave up and came home, and did a search for snow shovel manufacturers on the internet. I found one by Garant that looked like the same model, but this time with a blue blade. I copied the part number, went to Amazon, pasted into the search box, and found one. I ordered it, and yes it is the same wood-handled, aluminum bladed shovel I wanted. Maybe you think this is way too much over-thinking about a snow shovel, but when you have hundreds of feet of walks to shovel and a bad lower back, the right tool makes all the difference. Even if your back is fine, I recommend this shovel.

The Best Shovel Made For Saving Your Back,
This review is from: Garant Yukon Street L Shovel Ya135ls Snow Shovels
I have used a shovel like this most of my life. It is simply the best shovel made for shoveling deep snow or moving piles of snow out of the way. The long handle makes it easy on the back. It still works way better than one of those plastic ergonomic things you see everywhere. It is perfect for shoveling the house roof if you live where you get that much snow. Thankfully, it has been many years since the last time I had to do that job. This shovel also works good for making a sled run for the kids. Just shovel the snow onto the track, whack it down with the back side of the shovel and slide the shovel from side to side to smooth off the snow. Let the snow freeze up and coat with a sprinkling of water to ice it up. The kids will have a blast. I make their sled hill this way every winter.I have a word of advice though. Don't use this shovel on bare cement on a regular basis because the cement will tear up the aluminum in a hurry. Please use a steel shovel for scraping down to the bare cement or pavement. For the last 15 or 20 years, I have been looking for a replacement for the shovels I had that were in bad shape. I could never find one locally. I finally found one here! Amazon uses a vendor for this item. I purchased mine from the Amazon vendor Ron's Home & Hardware for less than the current price on Amazon from another vendor. The shovels were shipped with just plastic wrap around the handles and one swath across the blades. When they arrived at my house, the shipping label was hanging by a thin strand of plastic wrap. Why it was shipped so poorly is a mystery. I got my new shovels and am very pleased to have some good ones for many years to come.

Ideal Shovel for Tall People,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garant Yukon Street L Shovel Ya135ls Snow Shovels
I am 6ft.4in. tall, and this is the only snow shovel that I can use without straining my back! This replaced an original one that I used for over 25 years. I had worn 2 inches off the blade, and it was still usable until the blade cracked near the handle socket. If you are tall and want a well-built snow shovel that will save your back, this is the perfect shove!.
